Rantoul Fire Destroys Windscreen Plant In Snow Battle
A plastic windscreen factory in Rantoul Illinois burned for eleven hours as crews from fifteen departments fought through wind and snow. Nine Air Force personnel and three firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation or frostbite. Residents were evacuated while the EPA checked for toxic gas levels. The blaze began at 6 45 am and two of three buildings were ruined.

Guilty Of Murder At Carmi
Clarence Kennedy of Evansville Indiana was found guilty by a County Circuit Court jury of murdering truck driver Joseph Modglin. Modglin, 38, of Sebree Kentucky, was shot nine times and found in his truck on Interstate 64 north of Carmi last June. Kennedy was arrested a month later after police stopped him nearby with a gun. The defense argued the state could not prove he was in the truck.

Born August 4, 1910 in Novinger Missouri, he married Juliet E. Morgan in Marion Kentucky. He was a member of multiple Bloomington organizations including Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 43, Bloomington Consistory, Mohammed Temple Shrine of Peoria, Shrine Club, Order of Eastern Star Olney, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, and IEEE. Survived by wife Juliet Fugate, son Kendall Fugate of Fort Lauderdale and daughter Martha Jeanne Kusmaul of Bloomington.
