A car found abandoned at Ina last night was traced to Benton man Roy V. Goodin, who reportedly stole it earlier. The vehicle was located at 11 57 p m after investigators checked the license number.
Firemen from the Jefferson Fire Protection District were called at 8 43 a m yesterday to the Route 7 mobile home of Bertis Reed. Grease on the stove flared up starting a fire that burned curtains. The fire was out by the time firemen arrived. Dam age, they reported, was slight.
Police report two Wednesday night burglaries in Mt Vernon. At 825 Harrison St the animal hospital lost $50 in cash and a key to the soft drink machine from a cash register after breaking a west window. At 910 Harrison St the Youth Service Center reported a basement window entry but nothing missing, no access to the upstairs.
Warren, 40, of S. 27th told police at 8 p.m. yesterday his car was stolen from the street in front of his house while parked at 7:30 p.m. He said he had left the keys on the floor of the car.
John Bradford reported a car stolen Wednesday night was recovered Thursday at 2 50 p m without its battery. The owner found the car two blocks from home in the 200 block of Shawnee Street, but the thief had already taken the battery.
A car at Economy Motor Co. on 4th Street and Broadway caught fire when the engine backfired through the carburetor causing minor damage at Rockaway Street and East Perkins Avenue. Earlier a meat overcook grease fire at Sandra Heil’s home 404 Forest Street caused smoke damage in the kitchen.
Mr and Mrs Larry Man of 1507 Lamar welcomed a daughter at 8 09 Thursday morning Jan 25 in Good Samaritan Hospital. The baby weighed eight pounds 15 and one half ounces and is named Stacy Renee. The mother is the former Darlene Hamment.

Father Matthew Wilmoth announced the Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Trinity Episcopal Church on Wednesday February 7 from 1 p.m. to 5 45 p.m. and Thursday February 8 from noon to 4 45 p.m. County residents are urged to donate. The February visit is sponsored by the Jefferson County Farm Bureau.
The Alton City Council approved using 9000 dollars of revenue sharing funds to purchase revolvers and shotguns for the police department. The decision came despite a black councilman's proposal to dedicate the money to a community relations program between black and white residents.
Samuel Henry Wright, 82, of Benton, died suddenly this morning at Franklin Hospital after a short illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton. He is survived by his wife Grace Cook, a former resident of Mt. Vernon.
The bodies of 25 year old Terry Samples and 19 year old Shirley Ann Hebbler were found in a station wagon in a closed salvage yard garage northwest of Marion Illinois. Coroner James Wilson said the ignition key was on and the gasoline tank empty with the engine warm, indicating carbon monoxide poisoning. The car was found in a wooded area north of the garage by Samples’ brother Jack. the garage is owned by their father, Charles Samples.
Allen Industries Inc and Local 1374 of the Textile Workers Union announce they will discuss reopening negotiations for a three year contract at Herrin Illinois. Allen, maker of automotive door panels and cushions, cites job cuts due to losses while noting substantial contracts for the 1974 model year and a $1.5 million expansion at Herrin. union and company officials plan to meet on February 5.

The body of John K. Egge bracht, 64, Mattoon, has been recovered from Lake Mattoon. The UPI report states the cause and circumstances are under investigation by local authorities.
