Youths Shot In Thornton Township High Fieldhouse
Two youths were shot at Thornton Township High School when a 13 year old, Lenearl Alexander of Phoenix, was wounded in the lower left side and 16 year old Eric Bell of Markham was hit in the neck. Police said a 1 year old youth later admitted taking a pistol to shoot the dean of boys Wille Brown after learning of an impending suspension. The gun, stolen from a friend’s mother, was reportedly loaded and the incident began as an accidental display. Alexander’s condition was listed as poor at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey. Airman Roger A. Burns, 23, formerly at a U S Air Force radar site near Belleville, is sentenced to 198 to 199 years in prison for the murder of Miss Roseann Curran 24. Burns pleaded guilty to the April 22 killing after a Belleville psychiatrist testified to a sociopathic personality with sexual perversion and sadistic tendencies. Curran was abducted from an automatic laundry and found nude and mutilated east of Belleville. Burns faced an additional charge of attempted murder of Mrs Mary Kusmer which will not be prosecuted.
