750 Barrel Oil Well for Wayne County

Fairfield reporting Wayne County shows more oil activity despite bad weather and operator departures. Man Held in Missouri City Theft Case

Jefferson county officers arrested John David Weidenkeller, 25, a Denver, Colorado resident living near Walnut Hill. He admitted he is wanted for a Cardwell, Missouri hardware store burglary. Missouri authorities will come to Mt. Vernon tomorrow to take custody.

Court orders return of Mussolini letters to Petacci family

Rome dispatch reports an Italian court ruled the Interior Ministry must return all correspondence between Claretta Petacci and Benito Mussolini to the Petacci family. Police had seized trunks containing Mussolini's letters to his mistress, who died with him in April 1945 after partisan action.

Edward I. Bailey 67 of 312 Casey avenue died 2:05 pm Wednesday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He farmed near Wayne City before moving to Mt. Vernon. Blizzard Toll and Deep Freeze Hit Midwest This Week

The midwest faced record cold from Canada and Arctic air with temperatures 20 degrees below yesterday in places like Chicago and Minneapolis. Snow drifts six to fifteen feet blocked highways in the Dakotas and Minnesota as a blizzard claimed at least six lives. Hold Up McGrath Probe Decision Held Up by House Judiciary

The House Judiciary Committee postponed a decision on whether to investigate Attorney General J. Howard McGrath and the Justice Department until next Tuesday after hours of debate.
