Burrell Lee Patterson a 29 year old resident of Fairfield Road suffered severe facial cuts in a traffic accident at the east edge of Mt Vernon. He was taken to Jefferson Cove Memorial Hospital for treatment. Details of the crash were not known this afternoon.
C D Cates filled an $500 sheriff s bond on a charge of issuing a check to defraud. He was arrested by county officers last evening.

Mr and Mrs Yoder announce the marriage of their daughter Mary Ann to Erven A. Arnold son of Mr and Mrs Bennie Arnold of Fairfield Road. The ceremony was at the Presbyterian parsonage by Rev R B Gutare on January 28 at four p m. They will reside in St Louis Missouri where Mr Arnold works for Cook Paint and Varnish Co.
The Jefferson county district Boy Scouts met at Hotel Emmerson with 22 members to plan activities and hear troop reports. Reorganized units have expanded to eight troops and two Cub packs, with Explorer Posts at the airport and multiple churches and schools hosting troops. Loren Unser outlined Jamboree plans for Valley Forge with 44 000 attendees and 98 council slots. A Scout Masters meeting was set for January 23 in the Chamber of Commerce room. next district meeting February 27, 1950.

Mt Vernon firemen were called twice yesterday for minor fires. At 4 15 p m a refriger ator motor overheated at Ladsehart Market 1018 S Tenth with no damage. At 7 p m leaking bottle fits outside Tommy Johnsons home 128 Perkins Ave caught fire and was out on arrival.

A charivari and shower honoring newlyweds Mr and Mrs Dwight Withrow will be held at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Fannie Buchanan southwest of Keenes on Friday night January 27. All friends and relatives are invited. Mrs Withrow was Miss Laura Buchanan. The couple wed Saturday January 21 in Bluford.
Robert B. Snodgrass, a Mt. Vernon former resident, died Saturday in Dearborn Michigan at 44 years 10 months 2 days. His body arrives at Myers Chapel Wednesday at 3 07 p m for burial. Funeral Thursday at 2 p m with Rev Bayne Wilson officiating. Burial in Oakwood cemetery. Survived by wife D Pauline Jenkins, a brother Wesley W Snodgrass of New York and sister Mrs Hazel Holland of Dearborn. Born March 19 1905 in Fairfield Illinois to W J and Ollie Sailor Snodgrass. Married December 30 1925 in Princeton Indiana. He was a shoe repairman.

An infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Marshall of 820 N Seventh street died at 9 15 am today at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. The child was born at 10 15 last night. Graveside services by Rev Ross Partridge will be held in Oakwood cemetery at 10 30 pm Wednesday. The body remains at Myers Chapel for calls by friends. Survived by parents Roy and Betty Lou Marshall nee Yost.
Dr Delyte W Morris announced a new cooperative project between Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois to set up a Carbondale plant growing station. The venture will focus on breeding peaches apples pears and include orchard nutrition pest control pruning and experiments with vegetables and ornamentals for student field work and private growers.
Thomas Clevenger of Harrisburg is named manager of the Southeastern Thnais Rural Electric Cooperative. He has been chief engineer since 1945 and succeeds A F Lentz, who resigned November 15 for another government post in Washington. The cooperative serves 9,000 rural power subscribers across eight counties Saline Gallatin Hardin Pope Johnson Hamilton Williamson and Franklin.
In circuit court Judge Caswell J. Crebs ordered a judgment against the city of Mt. Vernon for a 128.71 debt. Liberty Petroleum Co. filed the case and the court also assessed costs against the city.
Glenn Davis, son of Mr and Mrs Gerald Davis of 206 S Fourth street, has completed his U S Navy discharge and returned home. He enlisted as an Airman Apprentice for a year on January 21, 1949.
Jefferson county officers investigated the theft of two checks totaling 8165.86 from the Stewart Chain Co. The theft occurred Sunday, and police said the loss was discovered yesterday.

The Webb Town 4 H club met January 19 at the schoolhouse with 24 members and three guests. Ed Weatherford conducted the session. They discussed a wiener roast and hay ride planned for the near future. The next meeting is February 9.
Mt Vernon native Mad Arthur Co Medbeny of Alabama has been notified of a permanent major rank in the Air Force. He serves as Inspector General of the Osork Ave University Wing and has a long career from enlisted man to officer.
ST. LOUIS Jan 24 Radar guided a Beechcraft twin engine plane to a safe landing in dense fog. 2nd Lt. James Alexander 23 and co pilot 2nd Lt. B D Thorne 38 along with Sergeants J M Smith and CS BS Cook of the Air Force Reserve were en route from Omaha to Scott Air Force Base when fuel ran low. Naval Air Station alerted and steered the plane in by radar. Crew prepared to bail out but landed safely near Scott AFB.
A motorbike and an auto collided at Tenth and North streets at 3 30 yesterday. No injuries were reported. The riders named were Jerry Coady age 12 of 308 Castleton Avenue and Vern Paiteheratt of Belle Rive driving the mobile.
