Funeral services for Emery Marion Goin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Gholson Funeral Home McLeansboro with Rev. Ed Minor and Rev. Mary Irwin officiating. Burial in local cemetery. Body lies in state after 4:60 p.m. today. Goin, 69, died Friday at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
Charles Garrod aged 39 of Bluford died at 8 35 am today at Good Samaritan Hospital. The body was taken to Bluford Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Washington reports thousands of North Vietnamese troops infiltrated into South Viet Nam through Laos last year to reinforce Viet Cong fighters. Mt. Vernon area retailers will attend a King City Retailers Association meeting in Elks Club with Joe Meek of Chicago as guest speaker on Our Life Is at Stake Lets Get Together. The event honors King City Barracks 102 World War I veterans with a dinner, program, and lunch at the American Legion hall Tuesday Jan 26. Ray Zoeller of Salem will keynote and Little German Band will perform.
One vandalism case was reported Friday to Mt Vernon police after a small window at Toney's Laundry on Salem Road was broken. A prior theft report about nylon rope from the flag pole by housing project director Frank Neal led to rope being found wrapped around a street stop sign.
Wilma J. Hawkins files for divorce from Larry D. Hawkins citing cruelty. She seeks custody of a minor child and alimony for support. They married September 20, 1963 and separated January 7, 1965 according to the filing.
Mt. Vernon police chief Fred Dedman leaves tomorrow for Chicago to attend the Illinois police chiefs association annual meeting. He will be accompanied by Centralia chief Del Berger. The state meeting runs to Monday night and Dedman returns to Mt. Vernon Tuesday.
The Goodwill Industries truck will visit the Mt Vernon area on February 1. People should place clothing shoes and other repairable items on their front porch in plain sight by 8 am that day. Contributions support employment training and rehabilitation for handicapped and disabled persons.
Mrs Glenda Jackson filed in Jefferson County circuit court accusing sister in law Mrs Myrtle Hicks of criminal defamation. The alleged incident occurred at the V F W Club with witnesses present. Bond set at 8500. Hicks signed her own recognizance bond. Both residents of Mt Vernon.
