Two Fire Calls In Mt Vernon Area Over Weekend
Firemen responded to two weekend calls in Mt Vernon area. Rural firemen went to the Chesley bus garage on Brownsville Road where a furnace pipe fell and filled the building with smoke with no fire damage. City firemen were called to Herbert Wicks home at 1403 Stones where a gas furnace electric switch shorted causing damage to a rug.

Child’s Finger Caught In Chair Emergency Run
Firemen responded Sunday afternoon when two year old Stephen Lowry trapped a finger in a folding chair and could not be freed by his mother. Firefighters released the finger and he was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. The injury was not severe and he was sent home after care. Stephen is the son of Mr and Mrs Ernest D Lowry of 2408 Logan.
