Funeral services were held at Union Chapel church for Etta M McKinney of Texico who died at age 76. The Rev James Corbitt officiated and burial followed in Union Chapel cemetery. She was born November 8 1877 and married Charles E McKinney on November 26 1898. Survived by husband four sons Velma Haley Verna Tate Zella Dalby three daughters sixteen grandchildren six great grandchildren five brothers two sisters.

Widow Josie Writtenberry survives with son Charles of St Louis and daughter Grace Rhoden of Florida, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren, brother Harve Winegardner of Salem. Funeral arrangements at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix after 2 pm Sunday. Born September 30 1882. Previously married to Nellie Adams then Josie Writtenberry. He was a member of Pentecost church.

Mrs. Gilbert N. Wood of 103 South 20th Street was notified of the death of her aunt Mrs. H. Holder 82 of Farmersburg Indiana. Mrs. Holder died at her daughter Mrs. J. E. Martin’s Fort Wayne home. She had formerly shared the Wood household before marriage. Survivors include a son J. E. Martin of Fort Wayne and a daughter in Monticello.

Deer Killed On Road By Truck Near Dahlgren

A 250 pound deer was killed about one and one half miles east of Dahlgren on Wednesday night. The buck, released in Hamilton county weeks earlier by Game Warden Carroll Buster, ran into a Tiptop Creamery truck driven by Virgil Parrot and Bob Forester of Sumner. Night Policeman Bob Beasley notified the game warden. the deer will be given to a state organization.

Brokerage Store At McLeansboro Damaged In Windstorm

McLeansboro’s Brokerage store suffered thousands in damage during a Tuesday night wind storm and rain. A chimney blew over, crashed through the roof, collapsing the ladies ready to wear area and flooding the basement where merchandise was stored. Manager Danny King found the damage on Wednesday morning.

Benefit Dance for March of Dimes at Moose Lodge

A benefit dance to aid the March of Dimes is set for Friday night January 29 at the Moose Lodge. Dancing starts at 9 p.m. with four musical groups alternating: Jimmy Wright's Rhythm Play boys Rolla Fenton's Dixieland Band The Mellow-Macs and the Egyptiannaires. All proceeds go to the March of Dimes.

Mrs. Fred Carden, 87, a well known Mt. Vernon resident, is a patient at Good Samaritan Hospital after fainting at her home on Main Street yesterday afternoon. Her physician reports she is getting along well today.

Motorist killed near Gillespie in rural Illinois

The body of John F. Russell, 31, of Gillespie, was found today in a field near his demolished car just south of Gillespie on State Route 4. The death is under investigation by local authorities with no suspects named at this time.
