Iran's premier Mohammed Mossadegh secured 24 million dollars in Point Four aid with minimal strings and ordered the closure of Britain’s nine consulates and vice consulates in Iran. The cabinet approved the technical assistance package as Britain complied and closed its offices.
Freeport Illinois January 21 George Kauffman a 21 year old laborer faced a string of misfortunes after losing his job two weeks ago Friday his wife left him and last night a fire consumed his three room house. He had no telephone so he rode a motorcycle for help skidding on ice and crashing into a ditch injuring his abdomen and he was hospitalized.
Eighteen month old Paul L Lipard of Ardsley New York accidentally hanged yesterday on the cord of a Venetian blind. He was found by his parents entangled in the cord while playing, then released the catch which lowered the blind and raised the cord, causing a fatal accident.
A 1946 model car stolen in Mt. Vernon on January 13 has been found abandoned near Walnut Hill. The vehicle owned by Ralph Pate was recovered in the yard of Little Grove church about two miles southeast of Walnut Hill. Officers report the battery was missing.
Weekend blazes in the Mt. Vernon area included the total loss of a 1939 Nash owned by George Haynes Jr plus three other fires. Rural crews were summoned four times Saturday and city firemen twice Sunday, with incidents at Liberty Road, a wreck south of Mt. Vernon, the James McDermott garage on Benton Road, and Owen D. Herbert Jr. home leaves fire. Two grass fires were put out by city crews on Sunday.
Mt. Vernon optometrist Dr J W Dycus was elected president of the Southern Illinois Optometric Society at its Sunday meeting at Hotel Emmerson. New officers include vice president Dr J D Slightom of Harrisburg and secretary-treasurer Dr A D Phillips of Carmi. Delegates and attendees from multiple towns gathered, with Dr Richard M Gavain of Vandalia named Chicago council delegate.

Rep. Peter F. Mack Jr. flies a single engine plane on a 2395 mile stretch from Honolulu to San Francisco. He left at 10:54 p.m. local time aiming to reach San Francisco airport by 5:30 p.m. Monday. He carried 269 gallons of fuel for about 27 hours plus a life raft life jacket and supplies.
Police headquarters logged two theft reports. Bob Carroll of 22138 College said four hub caps were stolen from his car at the L. N. Cafe. John Hatchett of 1010 Tolle Road reported a briefcase stolen from his car in his yard.

Washington January 21 official Defense Department tally records 59 additional Korea battle casualties. The new list shows 14 killed, 41 wounded and four missing in action, and notes 10 dead who were previously listed as missing.
An urging customer rushes to Mt. Vernon East Side Square to buy liquor wine and beer for a gathering. The ad offers free delivery by calling 100 or 708 and promotes the store as the largest variety by bottle or case with rear parking for service.
The proposal expands manpower and ships, raising Armed Forces totals to 3.76 million under a larger defense budget of 51.2 billion dollars for next year. COVINGTON Ky Jan 21 Fabulous George Remus once Chicago lawyer turned bootlegger in Cincinnati and a $20,000,000 fortune holder is dead at 78. He died yesterday at his modest home after stroke on August 8 1950. His wealth faded after a 1921 raid led to prison for indictment and a 1927 murder trial of his wife Mrs Imogene Holmes of Evanston Illinois ended in acquittal by temporary insanity.
London papers concluded Princess Margaret will not marry the Earl of Dalkeith. Reports last week suggested a royal wedding, but most outlets now say they are childhood friends. Only Empire News kept the romance alive, while others say they are not in love.

PADUCAH Ky Jan 21 police baffled by a case involving 46 year old truck driver William E Underwood found dead in a tourist camp with a single bullet and a 15 year old girl Jo Nell Nunley seriously wounded. The girl telephoned for a taxicab from the same camp and later handed her mother a revolver with one chamber. X rays showed a jagged bullet in the girl’s brain and no other weapon was found.
