Mrs. W. S. Jinnette of Merrill Ore sister of Mrs. Minnie Ingram of Mt. Vernon died Tuesday night in a Klamath Falls hospital. She was 83. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Presbyterian church in Merrill.
Maude Gibbs 79 died Wednesday at her McLeansboro home after a long illness. Funeral 3:00 p.m. Friday at Gholson Funeral Home with Rev. Ned Sutton officiating. Burial Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Born Oct 31, 1886 in Hamilton County. survived by three daughters and five sisters.
Funeral services for Thomas Mellon Bright will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Ten Mile Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Minor officiating. Burial follows in the adjoining cemetery. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro handles arrangements. friends may call at any time. Bright, 94, of West Cherry Street, McLeansboro, died Tuesday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
List of patients admitted or discharged at Hasnital and Good Samaritan facilities. Admitted at Jefferson Memorial include Ora Adcock Bum pus Vern Grubb and Grover F. Brenton. Discharged patients include Emery Carroll William Sterling Sanders and several others. Good Samaritan admissions feature Frank Kohut Pan sey Ziegler Wilbur Jay Wood and more.
Mr and Mrs James Chandler of Ashley welcomed a son named David John at 4 17 this morning weighing nine pounds in Good Samaritan hospital. Mr and Mrs Gary Wayne Scrivner of Belle Rive welcomed a daughter named Cheryl Ann at 5 04 this morning weighing eight pounds ten and a half ounces in Good Samaritan hospital.
The Mt Vernon area reports the warmest year 1921 and coolest 1948, with record high 114 degrees in 1936 and coldest days in 1905 and 1930 at 20 below zero. December was warmer than normal with 2.42 inches of precipitation, the warmest December in 24 years since 1921.
Chicago AP reports sunshine and rising temperatures easing winter in Illinois but a new cold front threatens to bring temperatures near zero to 10 above in the north by Friday morning. Southern Illinois could reach around 40, while northern sections stay in the 20s. Rockford records 2 below, Belleville 14 above. statewide precipitation stands at .38 inches for the year through date.
Snow, sleet and freezing rain hit from eastern Colorado to the midsection and into the South with severe cold in the North Central and northern Montana. Six inches fell at Lamar Colorado and up to eight inches in western Texas. Two traffic deaths reported on icy roads as warnings spread from New Mexico to the lower Mississippi Valley.
In a North Sea storm the pirate ship Caroline ran aground near Frinton on the East Coast. Rescue crews evacuated five disc jockeys and two technicians by breeches buoy as the Dutch skipper and crew remained offshore. The Coast Guard attempted calls and signals but the ship grounded just inside the three mile limit before the Post Office stated no action would be taken provided broadcasts did not resume.
Mt Vernon officials plan talks in Washington with Department of Commerce and lawmakers on a federal grant for an industrial park at the airport and possible Ozark Airlines service expansion making Mt Vernon an intermediate point. They seek Hill Burton funds for a new four story hospital wing, a convent, and 20 more beds amid rising patient intake. current beds total 110.

Cattle 900 calves 200 with steers 24.50 to 27.50 and heifers 23.00 to 35.50 while cows 14.50 to 16.50 and vealers 23.00 to 37.00. Sheep 400 with wool lambs 24.00 to 28.50 and shorn lambs 27.00 to 28.00.
Chicago Mercantile Exchange butter and eggs listed with steady prices and quality grades. Butter scores AA through C show 59 or 58 cents, eggs graded A to standards reflect variety of white and mixed percentages, with prices around 70 percent or better.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport led the world in passenger and aircraft usage for the year. The Department of Aviation report shows 20,998,325 total passengers and 509,621 planes, with 11,085 international flights and 670,468 international passengers. Freight reached 615.6 million pounds and mail 161.9 million pounds.
Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad will end service on four trains between Danville Indiana and Evansville Indiana. Trains 92 and 94 northbound from Evansville and trains 1 and 95 southbound from Danville are to be discontinued this Friday. The move was approved by the Interstate Commerce Commission, said C E I president David O Matthews.
The University of Illinois Board of Trustees approved a plan to set no final enrollment ceiling for its campuses. The move follows a report to the State Board of Higher Education as it studies campus size and capacity, with the university expecting student totals to rise from 34,634 in fall 1964 to 62,? in 1974.
Mrs. Gail Emmer's car unexpectedly rolled from a hillside yard while warming up. The vehicle moved without a driver, traveled downhill between trees, and halted behind D. M. Rutherford's driveway with the engine still running. The incident occurred as she was visiting her brother Rev. Ace Summers in Hinman.
Harold Bothwell skipper of the 73-foot Charles Singleton said he and nine crew members were well treated in Cuba after their vessel ran aground near a reef and sank. A Cuban Coast Guard helicopter rescued him and two crew, and they stayed in a hotel in Pinar del Rio. The ships were en route from Tampa to Nicaragua with the others detained but not held.
Frank Buster Wortman, 61, longtime Southern Illinois figure, was acquitted by a jury in East St. Louis federal court of evading more than 50 000 in federal income taxes for 1953 to 1955 from casino earnings. The verdict came after 9 hours 15 minutes of deliberation.

A three car crash on the Eisenhower Expressway near Maywood left three dead and two injured. Victims identified include Barbara Jaffee, 32, of Glen Ellyn and Joseph Demdovich, 45, of Chicago. Injured were Joseph Smetak, 20, of Westchester, and passenger Michael Quinn, 21, of Bellwood. Smetak admitted to Oak Park Hospital. Quinn treated and released. State police say Jaffee's car left westbound lanes, crossed a divider, and ended in eastbound traffic with the other two vehicles.
Mt. Vernon rural firemen answered three alarms yesterday. They were called to the home of Lester Reynolds at 1304 North 13th Street where a truck being junked caught fire and was controlled. Two calls involved overheated furnaces causing fire scares with no blaze, one on State Route 37 south of town and another on North 13th Street.
Washington AP reports on the fifth anniversary of John F. Kennedy's inauguration. Kennedy urged a quest for peace, delivering a 14 minute speech urging negotiation over fear and envisioning a world where law protects the weak and preserves peace.

Francis Clark of Woodlawn reported to the sheriff yesterday that thieves stole between 180 and 200 gallons of gasoline from his tank. The culprits broke a hasp and damaged the hose in the incident.
Fines assessed by the circuit court include Floyd Thomas Fox of Woodlawn with $10 for intoxication, James W. Clinton of Dix with $10 for improper passing, Samuel R. Jones of Centralia Road with $20 for failure to have a valid operator's license, and Larry F. Cockrum of 1205 Shawnee with $20 for speeding.
