High Wind Strikes St. Louis Area Sunday

A brief thunderstorm with winds up to 35 mph damaged buildings and knocked out power to about 1,500 homes for as long as five hours. Flash Explosion Injures Mt. Vernon Insurance Man

W W Colvin aged 54 of 2933 Logan was injured in a flash explosion while lighting a gas furnace at the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints three miles north of town on the Salem road. He is in satisfactory condition at Good Samaritan. The church, formerly Pleasant Grove grade school, held its first Sunday service there yesterday after relocating from 20th and Casey.

Mt Vernon high school debate team placed well at the Southern Illinois Debate Tournament hosted by Southern Illinois University.
