Death of Otis C Thompson at 75 funeral Monday

Otis C Thompson 75 of 607 One died at 10 a m today at Sellirson Memorial Hospital after three weeks with illness. Funeral at Woodlawn Baptist Church Monday at 1 30 p m with Rev Ace farm ers officiating. Burial in Mt Catherine Cemetery. Body lies in state at Myers Chapel. Survived by wife Ethel York three married daughters and a brother Clina J Vernon. A stepson Robert Ramspeet was killed in World War II.

Adult Tax Course At Mt Vernon High School

A ten week adult course titled Federal Tax Procedure for Individuals and Small Business will run at Mt Vernon high school's vocational department. Beginning Thursday January 24 at 7:00 pm and taught by CPA Dean Tracy, the class costs 7.50 with registration 6:30 to 7:00 pm in Room 100-F. Veterans may receive tuition exemption with photo copy of discharge.

Four Fire Calls In Mt. Vernon Area

Four alarms called rural and city fire units in the Mount Vernon area yesterday. At 2:30 p m rural firefighters battled a grass fire that spread to a garage at Bill McGuire 1105 Gilbert and burned the structure. At 3:55 p m a grass fire at A Shreve on Airport Road was controlled and at 4:10 p m another grass fire at Norman Sharpe 8 and George was extinguished. At 5:00 p m city firefighters controlled a grass blaze at 2714 Cherry with no damage reported.

Saddle Club Organized Here in King City

The King City Saddle Club was organized at a courthouse meeting with 20 members. Officers are Carl Boyd president Lloyd Hughes vice president Betty South ford secretary and board directors Tommy Wall Harvey Whitlock Ray Sumner Harold Atchison C. E. Brehm. Man Killed In Little Dog Mine

A heavy support jarred loose during machinery work at the Little Dog Mine in Gillespie collapsed on Otto Mack, 54, Friday night, killing him. The accident occurred while workers moved material at the site.

Knights of Columbus Welcome District Deputy Visit

Knights of Columbus Council of Mt. Vernon to host Bernard Irth district deputy of District 56 in Tillnels Ith on his official visit. He will confer with Grand Knight Eugene Mc Cleary and Secretary Herbert Downey plus other local officers on administration and programs. District Deputy Wirth oversees 214 councils and over 75,000 Illinois members amid a 1,000,000 member nationwide order.
