Modlin 74 Dies at Home in Spring Garden Township
Charles Richard Modlin, 74, died at 4:00 p m Friday at his Spring Garden home after a lingering illness. A farmer, he will lie in state at the family home Sunday and funeral services Monday at 2:00 p m at East Salem Church with two ministers officiating. He was born March 21, 1877 in Hamilton County, married Bertha Hughes in 1900, and is survived by four sons, a brother, and 11 grandchildren, with two daughters and a son who died in infancy.

Seven of 43 Aboard Are Saved in Snow Squall Incident
The Trans World Airlines plane leased to Military Air Transport Service disappeared after a turn over the water during a snow squall. Airport watchers lost sight of it and could not contact the crew. The aircraft was operated by Northwest crews for the airlift. The crew included pilot John Pfaffinger age 39 from Kent Washington co pilot Kenneth Kuhn 36 and Seattle stewardess Jane Cheadle.

Three Fined for Iron Lung Racket
In Jonesboro Arkansas on January 19 three people were fined a total of 509.40 for an iron lung show. Otto Saylor and his wife Quilla Mae Saylor both of Lodi California received 150 dollars and costs each and a one year jail term suspended on condition they stop victimizing Arkansans. Sam Greco of Springfield Illinois was dismissed after paying costs. Charges of false advertising were dropped. The Saylors claimed the event was backed by the military Order of the Purple Heart and took in over 60 dollars in contributions before arrest.
