Vatican Envoy Taylor Resigns Amid Vatican Ties

Taylor resigned yesterday after 10 years as the president's special envoy to Pope Pius XII, a move that has long drawn Protestant protest. Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Illinois Highway 15
State Patrolman Glenn Barthelme investigated a fatal accident on Illinois Highway 15. The deceased was Hugo Barthelme, 46, a railroad watchman and uncle to the officer. Driver Robert Laerquet of Mascoutah said he was blinded by oncoming lights and cannot recall details.

Firemen Answer Two Alarms Here
Mt Vernon firemen answered two alarms for minor fires yesterday. At 5 15 p m they were called to James J Webb 701 Herbert where a fire around a flue caused some damage. At 6 30 p m they were summoned to Wheeler Warren 1205 Harrison where an electrical short triggered the alarm but caused no damage.
