R L Mernagh, 94, died Tuesday at his St Louis home. A former resident, he worked with the Alton and Mt Vernon Brick Co. plant when it operated here. Funeral services set for 2 30 p.m. Thursday at Lupton Funeral Home, with burial in Ash Hill cemetery. Survived by his wife and several nieces and nephews.

Chicago AP reports live poultry prices including roasters 23 25 cents per pound and red white rock fryers 18 44-2014. CME data shows grading scores with cars and eggs with Grade A whites and other percentages.
AP reports Thursday's cattle and hog estimates at National Stockyards Tl with figures for calves hogs and sheep. Hog prices range 17.50 to 21.00 for 200 310 lb barrows and gilts and 14.75 to 16.50 for sows. cattle and veal prices listed for various grades. sheep prices noted for good and choice and wool types.
Wall Street in New York shows a strong rally at noon with the Dow up 2.12 at 845.77 and the AP average up 0.6 to 512.5. Gains outpace losses as profit taking trims early leaders but broad market strength persists amid high rates and a easing money situation.
Bill R. Winkler twenty one from Mount Vernon was arrested Tuesday by county officers on a burglary charge. He allegedly broke into Red Prinnell Garage at the southeast edge of town Monday night and stole 20 used automobile radiators. He was lodged in the county jail with bond set at one thousand dollars by Judge Alvin Lacy Williams.
A burglary at Thompson Garage on 1016 Casey Avenue was reported Tuesday. Thieves shattered a window and stole tools valued at 225 dollars, including wrenches.
Mt Vernon Community College eight member choir will join Illinois junior college choirs for the Junior College Choral Union in Peoria. They rehearse Thursday, perform Friday at the IMEA banquet and Saturday's state festival concert at Pere Marquette Hotel, with soloists and instrumentalists from several colleges.
Mr and Mrs John Curtis of 1803 Warren are the parents of a daughter born at 5 34 yesterday afternoon in Good Samaritan Hospital. She weighed five pounds two and a half ounces and is named Lisa Ann. Mr and Mrs Leroy Allen of RFD 3 are the parents of a son born at 6 05 last night in Good Samaritan Hospital. He weighed seven pounds four ounces and is named Roger Lee.
Clear skies dominated most of the state with cloudiness possible in southern Illinois tonight. Temperatures ranged from -16 at Rockford to 2 at East Dubuque with a warmest Tuesday in the mid 30s along the Ohio River. Snow flurries possible as the Weather Bureau cautions.
Mt Vernon rural firemen fought three blazes overnight and this morning. A rubbish fire near Clifford Southerd’s home started a shed but damage was not heavy. A grass fire at Willard Sidel’s Route 2 home was controlled. A flue fire at William Smith’s Bakerville Road home caused about $300 loss.

A man wanted in Jefferson county on a check forgery charge was arrested in Biloxi Mississippi. Raymond Capps 22 of rural Jefferson county is identified by county authorities. He will be taken to East St. Louis federal court to face the forgery charge.
