Income Tax Primer on Medical Cost Deductions for 1963
The article explains medical expense deductions under 1963 tax rules. It covers age 65 thresholds, limits, eligible expenses, and how health insurance premiums and transportation for medical care are treated. It notes that deductions depend on adjusted gross income and exemptions, with special rules for those in homes for the aged.
Medical Expense Deduction Calculation for 1963
Taxpayers under 65 with a line 9 adjusted gross income of 7200 may deduct medical expenses if itemizing. They paid 250 in doctors bills 100 in dentist bills 150 in medical insurance premiums and 50 for medicine totaling 550, but only 3 percent of 7200 or 216 would be usable under the deduction rule. Obtain Form 2948 from the IRS to guide the computation.
