Earl Brookman of Wamac Dies at 63
Earl Brookman 63, of Wamac, died at 5 15 a m Tuesday at St Marys Hospital Centralia. He was a retired Prairie Farm Dairy driver. Services set for 2 p m Friday at Swango Irvin Funeral Home Centralia with Rev Errol Bosley officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Centralia. He was born June 24 1911 in Jefferson county to L A and Josephine Howard Brookman. He married Cleona Taylor January 27 1934, who survives, along with one daughter Earline Rebstock of St Simon Island Ga, two sisters Pansy Shelton and Flossie Saak both of Centralia, and four grandchildren.

Innocent plea in theft case at Carmi orphanage
James E. Paynter former $12 000 a year business director of the Baptist Children's Home Carmi faces trial in White County Circuit Court on an indictment charging theft of a $500 check meant for the home. The Illinois Baptist State Association has filed a claim for $103 752 against Paynter's bonding company after a special audit covering 1972 to 1974. Smith cited misdeposits in Evansville Ind banks in Paynter and a non existent Illinois Baptist Association as triggering the audit. Paynter 33 left the home in August prior to a Springfield posting and is believed to be working in another state. He was indicted January 6 by a White County grand jury, pleaded innocent at arraignment and was released on 5 000 bond. The trial date is not yet set.

Two Hurt In City Auto Accidents
City police reported four automobile accidents with minor injuries in two incidents. At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday Kay F McKinney and Reginald H Whitaker collided on 10th Street at Taylor Avenue injuring Kay McKinney and passenger Sally Pepple who did not require hospital care. McKinney skidded on ice and hit Whitaker’s car. both vehicles had major damage.

Police investigated a mattress exchange at the Regal 3 Inn on Wednesday morning. Officers found a full size mattress stolen and replaced with a three quarter size one after removing the linens. Capt. Harold Albright noted no forced entry and the theft occurred between Sunday and Tuesday.
