Spectacular Chemical Blaze Near Mt Vernon Rail Line
A major fire erupted northeast of Mt. Vernon when chemicals spilled from a C. E. I. train wreck weeks earlier. Firefighters reached the scene by driving along the tracks and used fog to control the blaze. No property damage occurred, and the blaze was contained in two hours near a railroad trestle north of Main Street.
