Blood donors fill Stadium Theatre appointments
Fifty six blood donors secured appointments at the Stadium Theatre during the weekend for the Red Cross. Volunteers led by Ruth Maxwell arranged the bookings with eight helpers. About 200 appointments were set, toward a 600 pint three day quota. Bloodmobile visits Mt Vernon Thursday to Saturday offer two free movie tickets for punctual donors.

Dick Beadle of RFD 5 Centralia died in St Marys Hospital Centralia at 1 12 p m on the day before his 77th birthday. A farmer born in Grand Prairie township Jefferson county he lived 54 years on a farm near Irvington. He was a Gilead church member since boyhood. Survived by wife Ira and son Charles plus a daughter Lorene Thompson and several siblings and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Irvington Methodist Church with burial at Hillcrest cemetery.

Three Minor Fires During Weekend
Mt. Vernon and rural firemen answered three weekend alarms for minor fires. Rural crews were called Saturday to the home of Pete Margherie on Opdyke road to control a grass fire with no damage. City crews responded twice, including Saturday afternoon at Neal Barnett 1619 Forrest where an acetylene torch hose caught fire. Yesterday they extinguished a minor carburetor fire in the 1949 car of Gus Fradelos near the fire station.

Arrests Fourteen Teens In Mt Vernon Auto Thefts
Six teenage boys were arrested after Private Detective Homer Cates nabbed two youths attempting to steal a car from Bayer Motor Co. parking lot. The others were detained over the weekend and authorities say all have admitted taking part in auto thefts. No disposition has been made.
