Willie Renold Webb born February 12 1911 died at Good Samaritan Hospital. burial at Oakwood with services at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
Harry E. Lawson 74 of 625 South 17th Street Mt. Vernon died at 405 a.m. at Twin Willows Nursing Home Salem. Funeral 2 p.m. Monday Hughey Pulley with Rev Howard Flora officiating. Burial Shiloh Cemetery. Military rites by American Legion Post 141 and VFW Post 1376 Mt. Vernon. Survived by two daughters Pauline Leathers and Norma Jean Smalley both of Mt. Vernon seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife one sister and one daughter.
Mrs Florence Woodworth aged 73 of 1010 S 22nd St Mt Vernon died at 7 05 am at Good Samaritan Hospital Burial is set for 1 30 pm Monday at Myers Chapel with Rev Lyle Bundy officiating Burial will follow at New Hope chapel after 5 pm Sunday She was born March 13 1899 in Minnesota daughter of Jake and Ida Day Strasser She married Earl Woodworth August 7 1931 in Northwood Iowa He died in 1971 A housewife she was former president of the Mt Vernon Mothers Club and member of the Southwest Church of Christ Survived by daughters Shirley Upton and Helen Lowery both of Mt Vernon a brother Fred Strasser of Chicago six grandchildren and one great grandson.

East St Louis reports a bank robbery at First National Bank by a woman with a shoulder length wig who fled with 4296 dollars after passing a note to a teller. The FBI notes the alert and bank cameras were triggered.

York lawyer defending four Miami defendants faced questions over rumors of replacing him with a guilty plea advocate. Newsday reported promises of cash for pleas from Miami friends tied to Bay of Pigs figures. Defendants Barker Martinez Sturgis Gonzalez, all with CIA links, were implicated in burglary to wiretapping in the Watergate case.

A 36 year old Vernon man William Nance was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital with knife wounds in his left shoulder after a family dispute. Police said no charges had been filed as of this morning. Gov. Daniel Walker suspended the plan to discontinue Peoria State Hospital operations starting Monday. He appointed a three member committee led by former Gov. Samuel Shapiro to study the hospital serving over 600 patients and 650 staff. The initial phase would have moved patients, staff, and 19 mentally retarded youths to Galesburg Hospital.

Assistant U S Attorney Michael Levinson said a second grand jury will probe rigged bidding on highway contracts in the Eastern District of Illinois. The jury begins Feb 6 and will examine several highways, not named.
