Mr and Mrs Billy Gene Newbury of Waltonville welcomed an eight and one half pound son born Wednesday morning. Mrs Newbury is the former Betty Lou Tate. Mr and Mrs Lawrence A Morlan of 1017 Gilbert welcomed a daughter born at 4 12 am weighing eight pounds nine ounces. A seven pound four ounce son was born to Mr and Mrs Russel P Cates at 7 35 am today at Jefferson Memorial Hospital named William Thomas. Mr and Mrs Morris Lisenby of Route 7 Mt Vernon welcomed a son born at 9 45 am today at Jefferson Memorial Hospital weighing eight pounds fourteen ounces. Mr and Mrs Truman Sheraden of Mill Shoals welcomed a daughter born this morning at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Home Bureau unit meeting at Mrs Rollinsons with 16 members

Mrs Rollinson hosted the Rome Day Unit of the Home Bureau on January 12. Sixteen members attended the business session including Miss Anna Betty Huck who spoke on Social Meaning of Tact and Mrs Minnie Johnson on Theme of the Picture. County vice chairman Mrs Earl Hanes spoke on the Home Bureau as a world wide organization and the Dutch Home Bureau in Holland. Guests included Mrs Frances Hayes and several others. Melcher Installed As Mt Vernon Amvets Commander

Robert Melcher was installed as commander of Turner Boehm Post 4 Amvets in Mt Vernon at a banquet night. Officers named included Hugh Murray Lester Davis Wayne Highsmith John Robinson Joe Martin Jess Hampton Carl Drennan George Groothius John Sammons and Dr Harry Nesmith acted as installing officer. Nesmith praised the post as a strong Illinois unit and highlighted monthly hospital visits by the Amvets Auxiliary.

CHICAGO January 13 Top Illinois Democrats led by Governor Adlai Stevenson and Chicago Mayor Martin H Kennelly will ride a Baltimore and Ohio RailRoad special train to Washington for President Truman's inauguration. About 200 state and local officers join the group leaving Chicago January 18 and returning January 21.
