Local residents and guests visited Mt. Vernon and nearby towns over the weekend. Leland Mannen and family returned to New Haven after Christmas with relatives in Waltonville, and Susan Mannen accompanied them. Multiple residents from Wayne City, Waltonville, Flora, and Ben ton were noted for shopping, visiting, or conducting business in Mt. Vernon. A four year old, George Robert Green, burned in November is reported improving in Jefferson Memorial hospital. A soldier, Pvt. Lester V. Boone, completed basic training and is now in radio operators training at Keesler AFB. Continuous updates on illness and travel were provided for several local families and friends.

Bert Eckert 73 a longtime Mt Vernon resident died suddenly from a heart attack at Jefferson Memorial Hospital Saturday night. Mrs. Nora Davis Hurt in Accident
Mrs. Nora Davis, 52, was seriously injured in an automobile crash Saturday night while returning home on Ashley road with her husband Merrit Davis. She suffered a broken left wrist, facial cuts, and possible internal injuries and was hospitalized at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital in serious but improving condition.
