A 48 year old Walnut Hill resident Helen Poggenmueller was jailed in Jefferson County on a 5000 dollar bond after deputies arrested her on warrants from Clinton County alleging driving with a revoked license driving while intoxicated and illegal transportation of alcohol. In circuit court three warrants charging James M Mangis with deceptive practice were returned after his Jefferson County arrest. Gas Bills Will Be Higher This Winter

The Associated Press reports Illinois gas customers face 4 to 50 percent higher bills due to colder weather and emergency gas purchases. Northern Illinois Gas Co. cites 45 to 50 percent increases. Central Illinois Light Co. expects about 4 percent rise for natural gas customers as it buys synthetic gas. Typical home heating bills may reach around 130 dollars in January, up from about 90 last year. The surge comes from a historically cold end to 1976 and rate paid for emergency gas at 3.78 per thousand cubic feet, tripling long term contract costs.

Paul A. McCord, 52, former Wayne County resident, died Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Minooka after a heart attack. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Joliet and is survived by his wife Lois, son Connie, three daughters Phyllis Connie and Debbie, ten grandchildren, a sister Mary Burney, and three brothers Marvin Billy and Ralph. Funeral services are set for Saturday in Shorewood.

LAS VEGAS AP. Singer Frank Sinatra's mother Natalie Dolly Sinatra was aboard a Lear jet that disappeared en route from Palm Springs to Las Vegas. Authorities feared a crash in rugged San Bernardino Mountains as two search helicopters prepared for air rescue. Sinatra performed at Caesars Palace before news of the suspected crash reached him.
