Death of Alleta Miner Veteran church member at 94

Alleta Miner 94 of the Jeffersonian Nursing Home died at 6:20 p.m. at the facility. Services were held at Myers Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Dr Clyde Funkhouser officiating, burial in Oakwood cemetery. Born October 26 1880 in Mt Vernon to William Kinley and Laura Henry Daniel she married William Viner November 10 1951. She was a longtime member and choir officer of First United Methodist Church. She is survived by a niece Mrs Elmer Snodsmith a twin sister Mrs Veneta D Grant another sister Mrs Edna Hutchison three great nephews one great niece two great-great nephews and three great-great nieces. The funeral home will receive visitors after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Eural Morris Broughton 72 of Broughton died 8 25 am Saturday at his home. A retired laborer, he will lie in state 1 pm Tuesday at Hebron Presbyterian Church near Walpole. Funeral 2 pm Tuesday at the church with burial in the church cemetery. Gholson Funeral Home in Vic Leansboro is handling arrangements. He was born November 28 1902 in Saline County to Richmond and Florence Morris. He was married to Effie Hopkins who preceded him in death. He is survived by one cousin Earl Morris of Broughton.

Marion Cave Champaign dies at 57 in Champaign

Marion Cave of Champaign died yesterday at home at 57. Funeral arrangements set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel led by Rev. Robert Freytag. Born May 8, 1917 in Mt. Thieves Hit Unlocked House and Car in County

Man Found Dead In Pond Near Litchfield Illinois

A Westmont man, Raymond D. Lietke, 22, was found dead inside a car submerged in a pond north of Litchfield in Montgomery County. State police said a farmer reported a car that had left Interstate 55, crossed a frontage road, and fence, before entering the pond. Rescue workers recovered Lietke from the vehicle.

Balloonists defer crossing as gas threats halt launch

Forbes and Heinsheimer postponed the cross Atlantic attempt after a predawn takeoff was halted at the Marine helicopter station when fears grew that two oxygen cylinders atop the gondola could explode. The windborne balloon drifted away in cold Southern California air and officials planned a new attempt within 30 days.
