Rodney Hurt in Auto Wreck Saturday Night

Rodney Isaac Hurt, 17, of Mt. Vernon Rt 3, is in Jefferson Memorial Hospital after a collision Saturday night on Rt. 37 one mile north of Mt. Vernon. The car he drove, and a tractor-trailer driven by Bobb Harris, 31, of Bolivar Tennessee, collided at 28:45 p.m. Isaac sustained severe injuries to his left leg including a below knee fracture. Harris was uninjured.

Two major damage accidents occurred in Mt Vernon over the weekend. Milorad Blagojevich of St Louis and Jimmy R Lipe of 2013 south 21st street collided Sunday afternoon at Tenth and Main. the St Louis car over $100 damage, Lipe’s about $50. A Saturday collision at Tenth and Broadway involved Elmer Atkinson of 635 north 21st and a truck trailer driven by William C Gurley of Cahokia. The car sustained over $19 damage while the truck had none.

Afghan Pilot's Error? 50 Killed In London Air Crash

An Afghan Airlines Boeing 727 crashed near Gatwick after the pilot chose to land in freezing fog with visibility at 100 meters. Investigators said the flight crew misunderstood the weather report and that the plane should have been higher at impact. Of 89 on board, 54 passengers and crew died. 35 survived. Thefts and Vandalism Reported in Mt Vernon

Several thefts and vandalism incidents occurred in Mt. Vernon over the weekend. A four barrel carburetor was stolen from a 1969 Dodge at Summers Dodge on Fisher's Lane Saturday afternoon. Mickey Riley of Texico reported a car stereo tape and two packs of cigarettes stolen from his vehicle on South Tenth Street. Dr. J. R. Ansley of 712 Main reported a tire slashed on his car Saturday afternoon.
