Two Mt Vernon Brothers Enlist in Air Force

Two former Mt Vernon high school graduates, Robert H. Stewart aged 19 and William E. Stewart aged 20, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Horace A. Stewart of Jefferson City Missouri, have joined the U.S. Air Force after moving from Mount Vernon to Jefferson City last June. They have completed basic training.

Fairfield Wedding Unites Vernon Resident and Miss Dawson

In Fairfield Illinois on December 17, Miss Evelyn M. Dawson daughter of Mrs. Fred Dawson and Linton Musgrave son of Rev. and Mrs. Raymond Musgrave wed in a candlelit General Baptist church ceremony led by Rev. Marsh Harpool. The event featured chrysanthemum and mum arrangements, musical selections, a reception, and plans to reside at 1902 Conger Mt. Vernon after a short honeymoon.

Morlan Funeral Set For Monday at Myers Chapel

Funeral services for Chester D. Morlan will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Myers Chapel with Dr. W. A. Gray officiating. The body remains at Myers Chapel for visitation after 3:00 p.m. today. Morlan, foreman of the tin shop at Mt. Vernon Car Co., died in his sleep Thursday night.

Illinois woman senator vows to speak her mind

Associated Press reports from Springfield that Lottie Holman O'Neill, 67, the second woman Illinois state senator, says she speaks her mind and will not trim sails for reelection. A former House member, she aims to push equal rights and a stronger role for women in party policy. She takes the Joliet seat vacated by Richard Barr. the only other Illinois woman senator was Florence Rohrer.

Golden anniversary noted for Crosno couple in Albuquerque

Former Jefferson county residents Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Crosno celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary with a turkey dinner hosted by the Fellowship Bible Class of Monte Vista Christian Church in Bethany Hall Albuquerque. Attending, more than eighty friends heard Rev. Ira Bailes honor the couple as Mrs. Crosno wore a red suit and a pin from Switzerland. The Crosnos left Jefferson county in 1912 and now reside at 924 East Silver Avenue Albuquerque.
