Harold Edward Olivier died suddenly Friday from a heart attack while en route to Mt Vernon hospital. His wife was driving the car. services will be held Monday at the Maple facility in Waktesville Ward 6 with officiating clergy from Good Samaritan Hospital.
In Louisville Kentucky police awakened by two men found a wheel and back seat of a car. Arthur Perier was questioned as officers searched for the serial number. The incident prompted warnings about checking spare tires and vehicle identification in the area.

William Carroll Barnes 76 of 1207 Logan Street died at 1 a.m. at his home. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 p.m. at Evangelial United Brethren Church at 77th and Casey. Burial in Kirk Cemetery near Sullivan. Body lies in state at the funeral home. Survived by wife Flossie two daughters Pansy Irene Auten of Sullivan and Mary Irene Jenkins of Sullivan. two sisters Mrs. Alice Page Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Bertha Underwood Benton. one brother Jim of Chicago.
Ingrid Bergman complains gossip about her private life caused unhappiness. In a Paris transcribed interview with Kathy Godfrey she says she dislikes how people speculate. The remarks touch on her marriage to Dr. Peter Lindstrom and public interest.
Two separate crashes occurred on Mt Vernon streets Friday with no injuries. At 2 47 p m Leater R Eyre 19 of 1012 north henth skidded 75 feet into a parked car on Salem Road and Warren Avenue. Eyre was fined 25 dollars and costs for reckless driving. Later that night George Wayne Levail 17 of 301 Broadway skidded on an icy street and struck a parked vehicle.
Police Chief Ellis Bennis of Fos ter contacted state police for aid after a collision at a slippery intersection. He exclaimed that he was involved in the crash as his car struck another. Marriage licenses listed for Philip Vogel and Blair Rash and for Jimmy Davenport and Evelyn Langa.
A vehicle owned by Clyde Hicks at 707 Casey Avenue was set on fire in front of the Hicks home. Police investigated the incident as a possible arson with no injuries reported.
Olen Eater announces the business has relocated from 12th and Jordan to 1500 Park Avenue. He invites the public to an open house at the new facility, which houses six service trucks and 16 employees.
The Jefferson County Farmers Union announces a weeklong campaign with four meetings next week. State officials will speak at each event. All county farmers are invited to attend choosing a convenient night. Meetings begin at 7 30 p m at Bald Hill Town House Belle Rive Bonnie school Mt Vernon.
Dallas gun shop operator Up-Rubin Goldstein bought a box of old shells and discovered a live pineapple grenade inside. He reported the danger to police and the grenade was removed from the shop, leaving him grateful to be alive and reflecting on what might have happened.
Elmer L. Messinger a 23 year old county jail inmate who escaped from the courthouse last month was sentenced to six months at Vandalia state farm after pleading guilty to vagrancy He had been working off a reckless driving fine and fled in December hitch hiking about 1500 miles before returning to the sheriff s office He said he got tired of running In a separate county court session Walter Hutch Wilson 50 was sentenced to four months at the state farm and a petition to revoke his probation on a vagrancy charge was granted
Mt. Vernon reports 1955 alarms 243 with losses $24,365. In 1956 trash burning caused 122 alarms, home fires 64, autos 26, sheds 8, gas stations 5, manufacturing plants 4, garages 3, hotels 2, warehouses 2. Firemen answered 22 emergency alarms last year.
Mayor O R Buford announced 71 reservations so far for a Mt Vernon dinner Tuesday at L N Cafe tickets are $1.65 each. Tickets can be picked up at the city clerk’s office. Plans include slum clearance a large shopping area and how Mt Vernon can qualify for class 6 fire insurance. Space for up to 100. reservations close after 29 more.

Denver resident Mes Nila Burge 58 drove without incident for 40 years then had three crashes in two months. After a final collision caused by a red light running male motorist, she painted a large black sign on the damaged fender declaring a man caused it.
