It Pays To Know Number On The Spare Tire

In Louisville Kentucky police awakened by two men found a wheel and back seat of a car. Arthur Perier was questioned as officers searched for the serial number. The incident prompted warnings about checking spare tires and vehicle identification in the area.

Two Accidents Here On Friday No One Injured

Two separate crashes occurred on Mt Vernon streets Friday with no injuries. At 2 47 p m Leater R Eyre 19 of 1012 north henth skidded 75 feet into a parked car on Salem Road and Warren Avenue. Eyre was fined 25 dollars and costs for reckless driving. Later that night George Wayne Levail 17 of 301 Broadway skidded on an icy street and struck a parked vehicle.

Police Chief In Auto Accident In Scituate Rhode Island

Car Fired Outside Hicks Home at 707 Casey Avenue

A vehicle owned by Clyde Hicks at 707 Casey Avenue was set on fire in front of the Hicks home. Police investigated the incident as a possible arson with no injuries reported.

Live Grenade Found in Old Shells at Dallas Store

Dallas gun shop operator Up-Rubin Goldstein bought a box of old shells and discovered a live pineapple grenade inside. He reported the danger to police and the grenade was removed from the shop, leaving him grateful to be alive and reflecting on what might have happened.

Messinger a 23 year old county jail inmate who escaped from the courthouse last month was sentenced to six months at Vandalia state farm after pleading guilty to vagrancy He had been working off a reckless driving fine and fled in December hitch hiking about 1500 miles before returning to the sheriff s office He said he got tired of running In a separate county court session Walter Hutch Wilson 50 was sentenced to four months at the state farm and a petition to revoke his probation on a vagrancy charge was granted

Mt. Vernon reports 1955 alarms 243 with losses $24,365. In 1956 trash burning caused 122 alarms, home fires 64, autos 26, sheds 8, gas stations 5, manufacturing plants 4, garages 3, hotels 2, warehouses 2. Firemen answered 22 emergency alarms last year.

Damaged Fender Sign Says Man Caused Crash

Denver resident Mes Nila Burge 58 drove without incident for 40 years then had three crashes in two months. After a final collision caused by a red light running male motorist, she painted a large black sign on the damaged fender declaring a man caused it.
