The Red Cross Bloodmobile will conduct a quarterly three day visit in Mt Vernon on Thursday Friday and Saturday January 17 19. Donor recruitment chairmen are urged to submit appointment cards by Saturday January 12.
The Mt Vernon hospital reports serving 25 554 in eight years along with 2422 outpatients and over 4000 tests. Death notice from Mt. Vernon reports the Rev. J R McDuffy of Ewing DL died at 10 20 am at the Matteon Al hospital. The body will be taken to Ewing on Sunday. McDuffy was a well known preacher at several local and Jefferson county churches.

Mt Vernon and Jefferson county Jaycees plan a January campaign to reach a 12000 goal for the 1952 March of Dimes drive. Jefferson county previously raised 13069.91 in 1951, as polio care costs press the national foundation. Contributions can be mailed to March of Dimes Mt Vernon Illinois.
Washington January 4 Stuart Symington plans to resign as head of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in a few weeks and may take many RFC officials with him. President Truman said he expects to accept the resignation later this month and Symington will return to private business. Symington helped run the RFC since May amid questions of political influence, though Truman said RFC policies were not involved. He also clashed with some State Department officials over talks with Bolivia on tin prices.

Washington Jan 4 Congress may fast track a 10 percent pay raise for all armed forces members from private to general. The bill, endorsed by Vinson's House Armed Services Committee, would apply to pay subsistence and quarters, not retroactive, with retirees also to benefit. Annual cost estimated at 800 million dollars to offset cost of living rises since 1949.
The government approved higher ceiling prices for Ford Motor passenger cars but rejected the full increase sought. OPS raised Ford by 4.97 percent, Mercury by 3.45 percent, and Lincolns by 5.19 percent at wholesale F.O.B. factory levels, with final effects pending company action.

JONESBORO Ark Jan 4 a 32 year old farm mother of 11 children was charged with first degree murder in the slaying of her husband who she said beat her for a decade and threatened to kill her. Her 14 year old son Claude Jr was charged as a technicality for reloading the rifle used in the fatal shots. The husband Claude Jack Arnder age 59 was shot twice in the head while sleeping at their home near Cash.
Associated Press reports Cecil Sanders, the sole survivor among 120 trapped miners from the New Orient mine blast, has left the hospital for home in West Frankfort Illinois. His condition today described as just fine after release on Wednesday following the December 21 explosion and 58 hours in the mine.
Washington dispatch notes farmers face record tax filings in January with 1951 income and estimates due January 3 or 15 depending on filing final returns by January 31. If final returns are not filed, estimated taxes and final payment are due by March 15. Overall farm income neared record levels. taxes expected to reach a new high.
