An extra alarm at the Hyatt House Hotel in Lincolnwood north of Chicago injured three and treated many for smoke inhalation as about 300 guests fled. Firefighters hurled ladders to free 25 trapped on upper floors while others jumped to escape smoke. flames started in a first floor wing and spread to 15 to 20 rooms before being controlled in an hour by over 100 Chicago firefighters. Damage is estimated at 15000 dollars. cause under investigation.

Prison break in Mississippi Jail leaves four inmates at large
Sheriff Fred Thomas led a manhunt for four armed prisoners who escaped from the Hinds County jail in Jackson after taking him and two coworkers hostage. Police Sgt Lewis F. Jones was wounded while thwarting a gunman who entered a Chicago South Side station and opened fire. Jones killed Fred Williams, 42, during the exchange and was hospitalized in critical condition with multiple injuries. Newark AP report says enough arsenic to kill a mule was found in the exhumed remains of Louis Saperstein a former insurance broker who survived a 1956 gangland shooting. The autopsy followed exhumation ordered after notes directing family to alert police upon his sudden death. He died November 25 at Orange Memorial Hospital. He had earlier pleaded guilty to embezzling $902,336 from the International Laundry Workers Union and received a 12 year prison sentence.
