Chester Borah 75 longtime superintendent of plant industry in the State agriculture Department died after a lengthy illness. Former Fairfield resident, he lived in Springfield the last five years.
W H Cook 71 of Birmingham Ala former Mt Vernon resident died Sunday morning at his son William G Cook’s home in McLean Shoro. Survived by two other sons Gus Cook Birmingham and Larry Cook Linden Tenn and brother Grover C Cook. Body taken to Norwood Branch Brown Funeral Home Birmingham for Thursday 2 p.m. funeral and burial in Birmingham.
Herman Locke died at 11 o'clock last night at his home in Overland Missouri after a long illness. A former Mrs. Vernon resident, he was married to Nina Harlow of this city and leaves two sons and a daughter. He was a retired St. Louis streetcar motorman. Funeral services will be held at Hillman Funeral Home in Overland at 2 p.m. Thursday.
The funeral of Noah H. Irvin of Irwin Johnsonville who died yesterday morning in Fairfield Memorial Hospital will be conducted at 1 30 p m tomorrow at Johnsonville Methodist Church. Burial will be in Garrison Temple Cemetery. Funeral home in Cisne, where friends may call at any time.
John Joseph Ellison of Woodlawn died at 6 30 this morning at Letzekor Nursing Home where he had lived six months He was 83 years two months 30 days old Born October 1874 in Canada He married Bertha Bowlds June 20 1906 in Fairfield His widow was preceding him in July 1952 Survivors include brother Siam Ellison Melrose Park Illinois and sister Grace Russell Chicago Funeral arrangements completed Body taken to Myers Chapel
Australian destroyers Tobruk and Anne occupied positions behind the Dutch liner Nieuw Holland in Singapore as Indonesian gunboat tensions escalated awaiting seizure. Passengers reported a British warship was sent to search for the gunboat and would intervene if needed when the Nieuw Holland sails to Melbourne.
