Baldridge Former Resident Found Dead At 82 In Centralia

Joseph Franklin Baldridge 82 11 13 of Mt. Vernon was found dead at his Centralia home at 5 p m yesterday. He lived with son Clinton G. Baldridge and was last seen Tuesday at 312 West Fourth Street. Funeral set Friday 2 p m Myers Chapel Mt. Vernon with burial in Mt. Catherine cemetery. Born January 13 1868 in Washington County he was a brick mason married to Ruth Alice Raines who died in 1939. Surviving are two sons Clinton G and James H two brothers W A Baldridge and E B Baldridge and one grandson.

Training Union Plans Social Tomorrow Evening

The Young People's Training Union of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist church will hold a social evening at the church on Friday at 7:30. A program will include all union members, followed by refreshments served by the union. Mrs. W. T. Waring is the counselor, Dupane Bryant of Dix is president, and Miss Mary Modlin of route 5 is secretary. The new union, under a month old, has seen enrollment grow each week.

John Riley Hero Heads to Sugar Bowl Tournament

John Riley, member of the Mt. Vernon Rams and a Bradley University freshman, spent last night in Mt. Vernon en route to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl basketball tournament. He stayed with Mayor Milton Forsyth and wife, was picked up this morning by Bradley president David Owens and Ray Ramsey for the trip, and will attend as a spectator.

Two Fire Alarms In One Minute In Mt Vernon

Mt Vernon firemen responded to two alarms within a minute yesterday afternoon both for minor fires. At 12 47 p m they were sent to the 100 block of Main street for a rubbish blaze and at 12 48 p m to the 1500 block of Logan street for a grass fire.

Only Quadruple Amputee Soldier From Korea Arrives in U S

Pfc. Robert Smith of Middleburg Pa arrives at Walter Reed on a stretcher after frostbite in Korea cost him both legs below the knees and both hands. His mother Mrs Clara Smith plans to visit. He was wounded near Chosin Reservoir on Nov 27 and later flown from the West Coast with nurses reporting he is an ideal patient who slept with medication.

Birth of Janet Sue McKiness at Jefferson Memorial Hospital

Mr. and Mrs. Steve McKiness of Benton road welcomed a daughter born yesterday at 1 20 p m at Jefferson Memorial hospital. The baby weighed 6 pounds 5 and a half ounces and has been named Janet Sue.

Giles Lewis Gibbs, a prominent Hamilton County farmer, died in bed yesterday morning at 61. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Union Church, with Rev. John B. Niu Ci officiating, burial in Union Cemetery. Survived by wife Alma and ten children including Clyde, Ivan, John Herman, Walter, Kenneth, Glenn, Merrill, Mrs. Mary Catherine Smith, and Dean.

J C Douglas Dies Suddenly Near Nason At 73

J C Doug Douglas 73 year old retired coal miner died suddenly this morning at his home a half mile north of Nason. The body was moved to Fry Funeral Home Waltonville where Coroner Ben Roeder will hold an inquiry at 9 a m tomorrow. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Sawyer Edward will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Myers Chapel with Rev. O. E. Connett officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday. Edward was Jefferson county's first tuberculosis nurse and died Tuesday at Provident Hospital in El Paso, Texas.
