James I. Warren aged 78 of Wayne City Illinois died yesterday morning Funeral services set for Sunday at 1 30 p m at the Dickeyville church with burial in Dickeyville cemetery He was the son of William and Lydora Warren Survived by three sons Homer Charley and John three daughters Lenora Cora Chloe two stepchildren Muriel and Alfie and three sisters Eunice Edith and Nine The funeral details follow local custom and family obituaries in Wayne City

Man Burns to Death at Marion

Marion Illinois December 16 Harvey Gibbons seventy two died in a fire that damaged his three room home. His wife escaped unharmed and said he was trapped by flames when he ran into a bedroom to fetch clothing. Fire Chief Orlie Ink said he apparently died of suffocation after being found by firemen through a window. The blaze is believed to have started from an air heating stove. An inquest was scheduled for night.

Artillery Moonlight Haunts Hungnam Front in Korea

American artillery shelled the Hungnam beach head miles south of the 38th parallel on Friday night using illumination shells to spot targets. Chinese groups numbering up to 1000 probed the perimeter but did not break it. Allied planes continued strikes against communist concentrations and supply bases on the Eighth Army front in west Korea.

Reservations For Joint Women Clubs Christmas Meeting

Reservations are due for the joint Christmas meeting of the Junior Women’s Club and the Federated Women’s Civic Club at Bowl Steak House on December 20 with reservations by December 18. Rev. Robert Foelber of Faith Lutheran Church will be principal speaker. Federated Civic Club members call 2640-W and Junior club members call 183. Mrs. Leland Wells hosted a birthday party and dinner for Miss Lettie Bristol with bridge. Geraldine Clark won high score. Out-of-town guests included Clark of Opdyke and Nancy Bristol of California.

Sgt. Michael King Injured in Korea Comes Home Today

Sgt. Michael King of Mt. Vernon is returning home this afternoon after being wounded in Korea last month. He suffered head and leg injuries and was treated in a Tokyo hospital for six weeks. Since Thanksgiving Day he has been hospitalized in San Francisco with the Army Counter Intelligence unit.
