Man Burns to Death at Marion
Marion Illinois December 16 Harvey Gibbons seventy two died in a fire that damaged his three room home. His wife escaped unharmed and said he was trapped by flames when he ran into a bedroom to fetch clothing. Fire Chief Orlie Ink said he apparently died of suffocation after being found by firemen through a window. The blaze is believed to have started from an air heating stove. An inquest was scheduled for night.

American artillery shelled the Hungnam beach head miles south of the 38th parallel on Friday night using illumination shells to spot targets. Chinese groups numbering up to 1000 probed the perimeter but did not break it. Sgt. Michael King of Mt. Vernon is returning home this afternoon after being wounded in Korea last month. He suffered head and leg injuries and was treated in a Tokyo hospital for six weeks. Since Thanksgiving Day he has been hospitalized in San Francisco with the Army Counter Intelligence unit.
