Obituary fragment notes the death of Hook, 78, with funeral conducted by Rev. Virgil Miller. Burial at Pethel Cemetery. Survived by a sister Mrs Edith Shipter and a brother Bertha, with services at a local home.
Leslie Evans Talbert, 61, a retired educator and farmer from Wayne City, died recently. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hopewell Church, Rev. Niles and Rev. Joe Treat officiating, with burial at Hopewell. He married Golda Rhodes on October 25, 1925, and is survived by two brothers, Joe Bamford of Wayne City and Johnson of Ora.
Inez Har en a long time Mount Vernon resident later living in Oklahoma died in Tulsa Oklahoma. She was born May 2 1880 near Richland Missouri and married Joe Holdren before later marrying George Harrison. Funeral plans are with Hedge Funeral Home Richland for 2 00 p m December 12 at Mt View Church of Christ cemetery north of Richland where she was a member since age 17.

Word has been received of the death of George Coleman 58 a former Mt Vernon resident husband of Greta Estes Coleman born Crofton Ky son of H H Coleman and Mattie Harris Coleman He died of a heart attack while in a Vincennes motel on a business trip Funeral services were held Saturday at Marion and burial followed at East Lawn Memorial Gardens He is survived by his wife a son Jack of New Mexico a daughter Mrs Dave Peggy Swan of Wood River three grandchildren and three brothers Homer P Coleman Nortonville Ky Graf F Coleman Mishawanka Ind and James H Coleman Crofton Ky.
Mrs Effie L Summers aged 70 longtime resident of RFD 2 Siemen sboro Ohio? born in Hamilton county died after a lingering illness. Wife of William Summers since 1903 she leaves two children Leaton Summers Thompsonville and Mabel Stewart Jacksonville IL, and a brother Columbus Dye Kentucy. Funeral at Gages Baptist Church near Thompsonville with Rev Harrison Gholson.

Mt Vernon police reported two thefts and one attempted break in Saturday. Thieves burglarized West Side Sundries at 22nd and Perkins, entering by a broken window and leaving via a rear door with cigarettes and candy. Lela Capps reported $145 stolen from her Conger address. A break in attempt at Chester City Dairy office at Third and Harrison failed to gain entry.
Clinton Tennessee reopened smoothly with eight Negro students returning to class together. One student planned to move with family. Three police cars patrolled briefly and then resumed regular duties in the small city of about 4 000. No racial disturbances were reported as classes resumed.

Russell Cutter departed Junction City Cole for Boston Mass last week and yesterday. Stan Koviara flew from New York City to Mt Vernon Sunday. Larry Forresta flew from Fort Worth Texas to King City yesterday.
Jerry L. Bullock of Red Won was fined and assessed costs for reckless driving after an accident four miles north of the city. MooA Fennell of Woodlawn was fined five dollars and costs for no license plates on a car. Authorities said Bullock was driving Fennell’s car at the time of the collision.
ARDMORE AIR FORCE BASE Oxfa The Air Force received ten large new transport planes able to carry up to 400 troops each and studied a larger concept to carry 800. The Lockheed C130 Hercules, first jet and propeller transport, will replace the C119 and C124 in service, with the C130 flying faster and carrying more troops. General Weyland announced the Hercules will augment the C12 Globemaster until its replacement, and a larger Douglas C133 A TAC plane is in development. The initial C130 tests are under way at Eglin Air Force Base Florida.
New York screen star Elizabeth Taylor underwent a five hour operation last Saturday for a crushed spinal disc and was described as resting comfortably and in good condition at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. The 24 year old actress has filed for divorce from British actor Michael Wilding and plans to marry Michael Todd when the divorce is finalized.
The United States and 15 other nations asked the UN General Assembly to condemn the Soviet government for depriving Hungary of independence and rights. The resolution would demand immediate withdrawal of Soviet forces under UN observation and reestablishment of Hungary’s political independence. A Cuban delegate pledged a separate resolution to suspend or expel Russia if it ignored assembly calls, though likely veto by the Security Council.
Calcutta dispatch reports Premier Chou En lai indicating the United States could face further action as ten Americans remain detained in Communist China. He warned Washington not to pressure Peiping by exchanging prisoners while noting forty four Americans were mentioned in earlier talks. Wu told Peiping the U S has detained no Chinese and all who wish to leave America have departed. The premier said the ten held have offenses against China and have not yet served their sentences.
Local Red Cross reports a total of 69 donated for Hungarian relief as bridge clubs and other groups redirect Christmas gift funds. The national goal is 5 million dollars and Jefferson County aims for 907. Checks go to Mt. Vernon banks or the Red Cross chapter office.

Grace Comiskey, president of the Chicago White Sox, died suddenly today in her apartment in Chicago. Officials say the death appears to be from a heart seizure, ending the head of baseball’s pioneering Comiskey family tenure.
McClellan township saw four defunct school properties sold on Saturday for a total of about 2.1 million dollars. Glen Cole of Mt Vernon bought the McLaneshiin site for 10,000. Roy Estes of Mt Vernon purchased the Wolf Prairie site for 7600. Merritt Beckman of McCellar township acquired the Hickory Hill site for 4,000. A. J. Bean of RED 3 bought the Central School for 8,500. Outbuildings at MebLagug Hill were sold for 24,000, with Roscoe Quinn directing the proceedings. Proceeds go to the consolidated school district treasury as students relocate to the new district.
Airmen stranded at McMurdo Sound after engine trouble return to base. Captain Douglas J. Cordiner says Seabees building the American scientific station near the pole have raised three structures and hope to complete major construction by month’s end as part of the International Geophysical Year Antarctic program.
Palm Springs California actress Jayne Mansfield and her six year old daughter Jayrr Marie were injured when a car driven by Mickey Hargitay with steering trouble veered across the highway and struck a telephone pole. Mansfield suffered bruises and skinned knees. Hargitay reported the mishap occurred Saturday.
A year-old actor, Malesha Beggs, was found dead in a hotel room on Chicago's near North Side. Detectives said two juvenile assailants tied and beat him with whisky bottles after entering the room in response to a disturbance call. The teenagers, Robert Mitchell and Haskell Kellems, confessed to the slaying and were held on formal charges. Beggs was part of No Time for Sergeants at Erlanger Theater.
