Evansville Bank Robber Seizes Over Ten Thousand at Lunch Hour

A six foot tall man wearing a brown jacket and grey hat robbed Evansville East Side Old National Bank just before closing. He forced two clerks and two customers into a vault and took 10905 dollars before fleeing as police set roadblocks. Witnesses Grady Walker and Dorothy Floyd identified him. The method matched similar holdups in Hamlet Bourbon and East Chicago.

Negligence Is Verdict In Fatal Crash Near Here

Jefferson county coroner's jury rules Gerald H. Fitz Gerald of Dix died November 25 in a crash north of Mt. Vernon from injuries after his car was struck by Van Aaron Musgrave's vehicle. The inquest at Osborn Funeral Home heard that Musgrave and five McKendree College students were in the other car. two passengers remained in critical condition at Good Samaritan Hospital, while Musgrave was seriously hurt but improving. Evidence included speeds up to 95 mph earlier and Musgrave attempting a pass before the curve at the railroad underpass on highway 37. Franklin Arthur Stewart testified Fitz Geralt rode on the right side. other witnesses recounted the sequence just before impact.

Two Children Cause Minor Car Collision

Police reported a minor accident yesterday at 4 05 p m at Tenth and Broad way involving John R Pigg and Hazel S Warner both driving east. Mrs Warner stopped to avoid two children who ran in front of her car and Pigg rear ended the other vehicle.

Car Shop Worker Injured by Welding Flash

Donald Lowery, 21, of 909 North Fourth Street, suffered a welding flash to his eyes this morning at the car shops. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. The injury is not believed to be serious. A cable came loose on a welding machine, causing the welder's flash.

New Yorkers Welcome Return Of Newspapers

New Yorkers greeted the return of daily newspapers after an 11 day blackout due to a photo-engravers strike. An agreement ended the strike for now and enabled the four morning papers to publish. Decatur Doctor Cleared in Income Tax Evasion Case

Dr Ciney Rich a leading Decatur surgeon and his office assistant Mrs Anne Martin were acquitted of income tax evasion. Funeral services for Oliver Ratliff in Dahlgren

Funeral services were held at Dahlgren Methodist church for Oliver Andrew Ratliff 66 of Dahlgren township who died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Son of former Mt Vernon resident awarded restitution

The son of a former Mt Vernon resident, James B. Hale, 13, of East Moline, was seriously injured July 25 near East Moline when struck by a car. In Rock Island County Court, Charles R. Stout, 35, Chicago, pled guilty to leaving the scene and was ordered to pay Hale $1,000 at $40 monthly.

Larceny Charge In Theft Of Unemployment Check

Assistant States Attorney Milton Ecker filed larceny charges against Eddie Lee Terry 44 colored resident for cashing a 43 unemployment compensation check belonging to Jimmine Elsaw. Authorities say he admitted taking the check from a sealed envelope cashed it at a tavern and spent most of the money. He resides at 710 South 13th Street and is jailed.
