Funeral services for Norman Knox were held Sunday at 2:00 PM at Woodlawn Methodist Chapel. Friends called after 4:00 PM today. Knox, a carpenter, died Friday morning at age 82.
In Decatur Alva Marlow, also known as Belle Rive, died suddenly in the morning. Norman C. Allen of Decatur notified her brother. The deceased, born and raised in Belle Rive, was survived by a husband and two daughters. Funeral arrangements to be announced.
A man known as Mr Five by Five was convicted Friday of fraud in Chicago related to New York importer Charles Gold. He alleged a rebate and denied owing money, while government agents noted a $5500 ender and a $2000 bond. Judge Hofman presided, and a new trial motion and Dec 5 hearing were scheduled. Several creditors claim over $700.
NEW YORK An ousted Soviet diplomat accompanied by bodyguards boarded the Queen Friday. Konstantin Ekimov first secretary of the Soviet Union delegation was ordered expelled amid custody involves a U S born child. The Senate Internal Security subcommittee called the Chwas tov case a kidnapping. The child sailed on the Queen Mary last Oct 3 with her father. The mother lives in Detroit and fights custody. The father and child were held in England after arrival.
Mr and Mrs Neil Lennington learn their painter David Bozarth of Peoria Illinois was injured when his hand and arm were caught in a washing machine wringer. He suffered injuries up to the shoulder and is a patient at St Francis Hospital.
James McDuffy of Ewing was fined 20 dollars and costs for speeding 60 mph in a mile zone. Donald Crabtree faced 10 dollars and costs for driving a truck that spilled oil creating a traffic hazard. Rosetta Micheells of Piunckneyville paid 5 dollars and costs for disobeying a stop light. Leslie Anderson was fined 2 dollars and costs for lacking a driver’s license.
The Associated Press reports the Weather Bureau 30 day outlook for December calls for continued below normal temperatures over the eastern third of the nation with near normal to above normal in the far southwest. Precipitation expected subnormal nationwide except near to above normal in the northeast and parts of the west coast. City by city readings include many clear days and some snow in Milwaukee, Traverse City, and St Marie with scattered clouds across major centers.
Jean Schwartz, 78, co composer of Chinatown and a charter ASCAP member, died Friday in Burbank, California. He contributed nearly 100 songs since World War I, including Rockabye Your Baby With a Dixie Melody and Hello Central Give Me No Man’s Land.

Mississippi County authorities report the discovery of a man's crushed skull and buried remains near a hand pump on a farm near Bird's Point east of Charleston. The missing man, Bob Moxham, vanished January 1953 after being paid $600 for work at a hunting lodge. The body was found by a workman digging around the pump base and was moved to Charleston for an inquest. Sheriff J E Scott said he expected important information soon.

At 9 30 last night Mt Vernon firemen rushed to DeWitt Maxey Body Shop 819 Jordan after a furnace began smoking. Firemen found no damage.
