David C. Grear 82, longtime Southern Illinois newspaper figure, died Sunday in Herrin Hospital. Funeral services were held at Johnson Funeral Home in Herrin. He helped shape regional papers including Jonesboro, Murphysboro, Mount Vernon and Du Quoin, and once ran the Herrin Daily Journal in 1916. Survived by a son Harold. his wife Della and three other children preceded him.

Rosary at Kringer Funeral Home in Ashley at 8:30 p m tomorrow. Born December 18, 1880, in Radom to Jacob and Julie Konkel. Survived by wife Mary Bude, married March 17, 1900. son Edldie Konkel of St Louis. one grandchild. sister Annie Kowalski of Madison Ill. half-sister Julie Krolick of St Louis. He was a farmer.
