Judge Charles T. Randolph will return to the bench in Jefferson county circuit court next Tuesday September 4 replacing Judge Caswell J. Crebs who has presided here for the past year. Civil suits have been set for hearing next week in this section.
Thomas W. Doswell, 55, was shot in his parked Cadillac in front of a Dallas hotel. The will, filed for probate, leaves the bulk of the estate to brother Houston J. Doswell of Weatherford, Texas, with $100 cash to his widow Rebecca Doswell and $100 to Christina Schmuck Doswell and Nellie Gransden Doswell. Rebecca Doswell is charged with murder. The couple married about three years ago.
JOPPA Illinois August 28 More than 1000 men were to resume work tomorrow at a 90 million dollar power plant after a 14 day idleness in a labor dispute. The plant would feed an atomic project across the Ohio River in Kentucky. Evan Dale AFL pool director said work was set to resume today but rain caused a one day delay. Dale said a latest dispute between unions eight since work began in February had been settled. Agreement was reached among his Common Laborers Union and two AFL Plumbers and Steamfitters unions on unloading of steel pipe.
Aiken Smart told 4,700 Methodist youth at Purdue that Jesus was a specialist in religion not sociology. He warned democracy’s link to Christianity in politics and noted Jesus did not address slavery, drinking, or international relations, stressing God as life’s primaryfact and social change as a flow from religious passion.

Los Angeles August 28 John Agar former husband of Shirley Temple is sentenced to six months in jail with 30 days suspended and fined 150 dollars for drunk driving. He received 150 days in jail for one count and pleaded guilty to another after prior arrests in Jan and April. Loretta Barnett his second wife reacted as he was jailed. He wed Temple in 1945 and they divorced in 1949. She now is married to Charles Black of San Francisco and has custody of Linda Agar.

Charles Wesley Holcomb of Port Angeles Washington former founder and principal of Bluford high school in 1920 and later Woodlawn high school died this morning. Born January 13 1887 in Dallas County Arkansas he was an elder in the Presbyterian church and had married Zola Proudfit in 1911. He moved to Port Angeles after a long Illinois career.
Benton Illinois August 28 William Kelly a 48 year old coal miner arraigned on a charge of assault with intent to murder after a wild shooting near his West Frankfort home Saturday. He pleaded innocent as one man was wounded slightly and a police car and two houses were hit by shotgun pellets during eight or ten shots. State's Attorney Joseph Hickman said Kelly had been bringing at the time.
A heavy Yorkshire hog owned by Louis Schmidt of Mt. Vernon route three was judged the champion barrow among eight breeds at the Du Quoin State Fair. The champion pen of three barrows were heavyweight Poland Chinas owned by Arthur Hill of Lerna.
Stephanie Lynn Smith infant daughter of Milburn H. and Mrs. Smith of Pekins Tl was buried at Pleasant Grove cemetery at 1 30 pm yesterday with Rev Joseph Harris officiating. She is survived by her parents a little brother Kendell Lee and her grandparents Mr and Mrs Earl L C Smith of Mt Vernon and Mr and Mrs P G Friends of Lincoln Nebraska
In ill health for three years and in serious condition since June, the deceased, 1943, lived at the time of death in the area. Survived by wife Zola and five sons Lloyd, Dale, Robert, James, and Charles in various cities. two brothers and three sisters. 17 grandchildren. Funeral services and burial set for Thursday in Port Angeles.
In Salem Oregon Democrats filed petitions to place Gen Dwight Eisenhower on the May presidential primary ballot with 1150 signatures exceeding the 1000 needed. Democrats stated no petition permit is required and Republicans planned to file their own Eisenhower petitions later.

The White House announced President Truman will fly to San Francisco on Monday to address the Japanese peace treaty conference Tuesday.
The monthly diagnostic clinic will be held at Good Samaritan Hospital next Tuesday, Sept. 4. New patients should report at 8 30 a m with physicians or letters of recommendation. Follow up patients by appointment. The clinic is state aided and services are free for those unable to pay.
Guy M. Summers of 800 North street fractured his right ankle in a fall at Champaign Illinois yesterday. He was starting a vacation trip to Wisconsin when the accident happened. Summers is a patient at a Champaign hospital and is expected to return home later this week.
Frank Irwin and Major John Hall returned from Cincinnati Ohio where they attended the air show. J. W. Stanley flew in from Evansville yesterday. Bill Deaton arrived at the local field from West Frankfort today.
Thieves broke into Peggie Holloway s apartment at 1918 Broadway yesterday, tearing a kitchen window screen to steal a piggie bank containing about $15. The theft was reported to police at 5 45 am.
