Deaths Wilbur Guthrie Rites Tomorrow

Funeral services for Wilbur C Guthrie will be held at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow at Second Baptist Church with Rev Carl Whit tington officiating. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Body lies in state at Meyers Chapel after 2 p.m. today. Tomorrow at noon the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral. Guthrie, 45, died Monday at his Amarillo home. He was a former Mt. Vernon resident. Survivors include his father, Curt Guthrie of this city.

Rites In Belgium For Brother Of Dahlgren Man

Werner Genot of Dahlgren reports the death of his brother Fernand Genot aged 74 in Belgium on August 14. Fernand, a 53 year businessman, retired last April and was knighted by the King of Belgium with the Royal Order of the Croson for wartime underground service. Funeral services with national honors were held August 18 near Brussels, burial in family vaults.

Roscoe Pete Leuty, son of Mr and Mrs Ed Leuty of Kell, died at his Earlsville YW home at 7 30 last night. The body will be returned to Samel Funeral Home.

Three Year Old Boy Shoots Mother in Bed

In Hayward California a 3 year old boy shot and killed his mother Betty Edwards 24 while she lay in bed. Police say the child found a revolver under his father's pillow and fired it thinking it was a toy. James Edwards 28 had kept the weapon there since a prowler scare two weeks earlier. The incident follows a second report of a ship collision near Gibraltar where the Halcyon Med sank after a foggy collision with Esso Switzerland leaving three missing.

Charge Homicide In Traffic Death

Donald Lewis of Metropolis is charged with reckless homicide in the July 30 two car crash west of Murphysboro that killed Bammie Jo Hassell of Yorkville Tennessee. Injured were William Travelstead of Metropolis and Rockne Porter of Yorkville. A inquest jury recommended charges of driving in the wrong lane and driving without a license. Lewis is free on 2000 bond.

Arrest 5th Man In Million Dollar Widow Swindle

Chicago police arrested Albert George the fifth man in a Pittsburgh widow fraud case. He allegedly swindled Genevra McAlister of 1 155 000 after posing as Father Leon. 188 Pints Donated During Red Cross Visit

A two day Red Cross Bloodmobile drive in Mt Vernon collected 188 pints of blood. Ninety six pints were donated yesterday with 18 rejections. On Monday 92 pints were recorded with teal rejections. The next Bloodmobile visit is scheduled for October 18 19 and 20.

Mt Vernon police broke up a disturbance in front of The Sub youth center at Tenth and Main. About 50 youths allegedly hazed high school freshmen, blocking the sidewalk until ten o clock. Officers warned and dispersed them citing loitering ordinances.

Mt W Woman Injured in Ashley Road Crash

Mrs. Norman Clark a 62 year old resident of 200 north 14th street sustained bruises when two cars collided on Ashley Road nine miles west of Mt. Vernon at 9 00 this morning. She was treated at a physician's office and released. Vehicles involved were a 1960 model driven by Hettie H Arthurs 50 of 1706 Pace and a 1957 model driven by Harry P Walling 48 of Evansville Ind. Arthurs car sustained about 400 dollars in damage and was towed. Walling car about 350 dollars in damage.

Dalby Attends Illinois Police Officers Meeting

Rogers Named Farm Adviser for Marion County

Leslie W. Rogers, 40, a Jefferson County native and Perry County farm adviser, was selected Tuesday night by the Marion County Agriculture Extension Council and the Farm Bureau Board as the new county farm adviser. The appointment follows a competitive selection from three candidates in Salem Wisconsin.
