Wm. F. Tucker of Dahlgren Dies at 89

William F. Tucker 89 of Dahlgren died at 9 10 this morning at Lowry Nursing Home. A retired farmer, he was born October 30 1875 in Jefferson County. Survived by wife Emma Levin two sons Claude Tucker Herbert Tucker Evan Tucker three daughters Lena Pearl Greer Georgia Capps Norma Gibbs and three brothers Charles James Tucker Robert Tucker. Funeral plans incomplete.

The Federal Land Bank Association of Mt. Vernon met in Fairfield with officers and board members reelected for three-year terms. Economic speaker Dale E. Vernon reported 127 loans totaling 1,718,527 for the year, serving Jefferson, Marion, Franklin, Wayne, Hamilton, Wabash, Edwards, and White counties.

New Disaster Benefits In Wheat Program

Farmers signed up for the 1965 wheat and feed grain programs may gain special disaster benefits if floods droughts or other disasters prevented planting. New law allows qualifying farmers to receive price support payments and wheat certificates based on the normal yield of unplant ed acres. Applications must be filed with local ASC officials and will be considered individually. Benefits apply in all counties regardless of disaster area designation.

Lewis McIntyre, 73, longtime president of the Pittsburgh Motor Club, collided with a guardrail on the Penn-Lincoln Parkway east of Pittsburgh. He said a car pulled in front causing his skidding on a rain slick road. he suffered no injuries.

Civil Rights Worker Slain In Alabama

Jonathan Daniels 27, a seminary student, was killed after civil rights demonstrators were released from Lowndes County jail near East Deposit Alabama. Fa ther Richard Morrisroe 26, an assistant pastor in Chicago, was critically wounded. Ruby Sales of Columbus Ga said they were told to leave a store 500 yards from the county courthouse when a man with a shotgun opened fire. FBI and Justice Department probes launched. Atty. Gen. Flowers promised full investigation. President Johnson ordered a vigorous inquiry. Coleman, a state highway employee and part time deputy, is married with two children.

A 23-year-old East Berlin woman fled to West Germany seeking asylum via Mexico and New York. She departed after marrying an East German sailor last year and traveled on his freighter to England and Cuba, then Veracruz. Two Noninjury Accidents Reported in Mt Vernon

Two noninjury auto accidents occurred Friday in Mt Vernon. Robert Tate of Route 7 and Don Elkins of East St Louis were each damaged about 50 dollars in a collision on the 100 block of South Tenth Street when Elkins brakes failed and rear ended Tate. A second crash at Tenth and Jordan involved Shirley Fisher of 1003 South 23rd and Edward Mabus of Lesser with Fisher's car damaged over 100 dollars and Mabus about 25 dollars.

July Coal Output Drops Across Southern Illinois Mines

Thirty one mines in six southern Illinois counties including Jefferson and Franklin produced 1,706,732 tons of coal in July, near half the state's total. Franklin four mines 404,797 tons. Jefferson one mine 144,452. Perry three mines 464,204. Saline eight mines 267,376. Washington one mine 1,800. Williamson 14 mines 425,103 tons. Average shifts ranged from 13 to 38 across counties, with July output down from June in most mines.

Schools Open At Dahlgren Tuesday

Dahlgren community high school and consolidated grade school will open next Tuesday August 24 with student registration and a half day. The first full day is Wednesday August 25 and the cafeteria will be open. Edith Shipley retires as second and third grade teacher. Virginia Bufkin takes the post. A teacher's workshop is set for Monday August 23 per Superintendent Raglin.

Pardons Caudle After Tax Conspiracy Conviction

President Johnson pardons Lamar Caudle a former Truman official who served six months in a federal tax conspiracy case. The action wipes a $2,500 fine and restores his ability to practice law before federal courts. Caudle, 61, was fired by Truman for outside activities and had accused Sherman Adams of orchestrating a vendetta. He and Matthew J. Connelly were convicted in 1956 of conspiracy in an income tax case involving Irving Sachs.
