A L McCormick 70 of Route 2 died this morning at Marion Veterans Administration Hospital. Funeral arrangements were incomplete this morning at Hughey Pulley Funeral Home.
Lawrence Beck 63 of North Harris Street MecLeansboro was found dead at 7 45 a m Thursday at his home. Funeral services were incomplete this morning at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
Entries are being accepted for the Sweetcorn Watermelon Festival Bed Races at the new High School Football Field next Wednesday. Beds mounted on four wheels are pushed by four runners in night attire with a female aboard. Prizes are 75, 50, and 25 dollars with no entry fee and entries via Musgrove Shoe Store.
Gary L. Vunetich, 28, of Mascoutah, claims his July 30 arrest and detention in Jefferson County jail were illegal. His lawyer filed suit against Sheriff Bill Hill, arguing the Texas warrant was not served until Aug 6 and that he was not brought before a judge with all possible speed. Vunetich, charged here as a fugitive from justice, faces $5,000 bond.

A morning collision at 14th and North streets left no injuries as Monte Williams 21 of Waltonville was charged with failure to yield after his car hit Dennis Litton 23 driving an ambulance carrying an elderly patient from Good Samaritan Hospital. Separately federal regulators urged strict limits on Darvon distribution amid abuse and overdose fears.
A car stolen in Mt Vernon was found in Beloit, Wisconsin, with Mt Vernon resident Robert Koull reportedly driving it. Beloit police notified Mt Vernon at 12 41 a m that the car had been located. Charges were to be filed this morning.

Two Herrin residents remained in the intensive care unit at Good Samaritan Hospital this morning after separate accidents. Steve Hubbard, 21, underwent surgery for head injuries after his motorcycle was struck at an intersection in West Frankfort, throwing him 35 feet. he was listed in critical condition. Gary Beavers, 12, sustained head injuries when his bicycle was hit by a car in Olney. he was listed in fair condition.
Media Pennsylvania police chief Thomas Bruton says he will testify in his eldest son Tom Bruton Jr.'s murder trial. Frank Sawyer, 35, of Drexel Hill, was found strangled along a Delaware highway. Sawyer's estranged wife and Bruton Jr.'s roommate were also charged. investigation handled by Pennsylvania and Delaware State Police. Bruton Sr. defends his vow to uphold the oath even as a father.
Jefferson county jury found Leon McKinney of Mt. Vernon not guilty of a 1974 robbery charge after 63 minutes of deliberation. The case involved a television set and handgun taken on November 3, 1974, with an aggravated battery charge previously dismissed.
After a deadly clash, about 685,000 U.S. forces were placed on precautionary alert while the 151 mile Korean DMZ remained quiet. Maj. Arthur Bonifas and 1st Lt. Mark T.
