Col Irvin Harlow Dies in Biloxi at 71

Col Irvin L. Harlow 71 a retired U S Army officer and former Mt. Vernon resident died Tuesday at Kessler Air Force Base Hospital Biloxi Mississippi from a heart attack. He had lived in Miami Florida the past few years Funeral services were set for 11 a m Friday at First Baptist Church Perrine with burial there He served in World War II and Korea and was in the Normandy invasion He was born April 28 1905 in Mt Vernon He married Golda Green March 10 1926 in Mt Vernon Survived by wife a daughter Audrey L Farley two sons Dennis and a grandson and one great grandchild Also surviving are three sisters Irma Lou Yaeger Flora Rogers Edna Anderson and two brothers Ashley and Kenneth

Lydia Tenosky of Carbondale died Tuesday at Doctors Memorial Hospital Carbondale born August 7 1905 daughter of Luke and Elizabeth Baxter. Funeral at Brayfield Lesser at 1 p.m Friday Rev Lem Myers officiating. Burial Maple Hill cemetery. Visitation 6 to 9 p.m. today at Brayfield. Survived by son Alvin Robert Tenosky two grandchildren and brother Thomas Overton of Sesser.

Mildred Panozzo Sesser 58 of Sesser died Wednesday at Pinckneyville Community Hospital. Born May 10, 1918 to Lucie and Sadie Moore she was married in 1958 to John Panozzo who survives. Also survived by her mother Sadie Moore three sons Ronald Embrick Milwaukee Donald Embrick and John Panozzo all of Lesser nine grandchildren and one brother William Moore ML Vernon.

Minor Car Crash Injures Douglas Driver and Tickets

A three car crash at the 22nd Street and College Avenue intersection injured Susie M. Douglas, 19, who was treated and released at Good Samaritan Hospital and ticketed for a stop sign violation. Cleo S. Tice, 52, also involved, faced major vehicle damage. a later incident on North 5th Street involved Debra C. Gillespie, 19, charged with leaving the scene after striking an unattended car with both vehicles sustaining major damage.

Attendance Up At State Fair

Attendance at the 1976 Illinois State Fair rose past last year with 461,940 visitors from Friday through Tuesday. Superintendent Paul King noted a 25,028 increase, and on Agricultural Day Tuesday 53,128 attended, including 44,327 paid and 8,801 non paid.

Mt Vernon Gun and Sportsman's Club Fish Fry at Lake Miller

The Mt Vernon Gun and Sportsman's Club hosts its annual fish fry this Sunday August 22 at the club grounds seven miles north of town. The event runs from noon into the evening with a special menu of fish hush puppies hot dogs onion rings and french fries plus snow cones and popcorn for kids. Soviet Lunar Sample Brought Back by Luna 24

Moscow Radio reported the unmanned Luna 24 has collected a sample of moon soil and is returning to Earth. The craft lifted off the moon at 8:25 a.m. and is expected to land Sunday. Previous Soviet missions brought back moon soil and rocks in 1972 and 1970.
