Corn-Melon Parade Acceptances Open Next Monday
Entries for the 6th Annual Sweetcorn-Watermelton Parade are due by Monday, August 22, per Parade Chairman Bob Poisall. Interested entrants should write, call, or visit the Greater Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce parade headquarters on Frontage Road, 242-5725. Parade marshal will be Chester Connaway, Co A, 3rd Battalion, 130th Infantry, Illinois National Guard, who will receive the entry list and outline the march order to be published shortly before the parade. The route runs from South 7th Street near the high school to Main Street, west to 10th Street, south to Newby, then east to 7th Street. Participants are asked not to throw candy from units. candy and prizes may be handed to spectators along the route.
