Beat And Scalded Fellow Missionary Convicted Gets Probation

Douglas Buelde, a 20 year old missionary, was sentenced in Saline County Circuit Court to five years probation for voluntary manslaughter and aggravated battery in the death of James Christensen. He will be treated in Wisconsin under state mental health services, not imprisoned in Illinois. Judge Michael O'Shea noted treatment may be preferable, with a $3,500 fine and $5,000 bond.

Walter Pidgeon Admitted To Hospital In California

Walter Pidgeon, the Hollywood veteran, is in St John’s Hospital in Santa Monica for tests for a possible brain blood clot. The 78 year old actor was conscious when he checked in on Friday, with hospital spokesmen withholding details. Pidgeon’s career spanned stage and screen for five decades and includes eight films with Greer Garson such as Mrs Miniver.

Illinois Pledges 122 Million for Coal to Gas Plant

The federal Energy Research Administration and Illinois officials sign an agreement pledging over 122 million for a 167 million coal to gas test facility at Commonwealth Edison Powerton site near Pekin. Construction to begin mid 178 with gas operations in 1980 using 200000 tons of high sulfur Illinois coal to generate electricity.
