Bonnie C. Hopkins, 79, of Belle Rive, died at 2:10 a.m. today at her home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.
In July the Labor Department reported lower food prices helped keep wholesale prices rising modestly by 0.3 percent, marking a 3.6 percent annual rate after seasonal adjustment. Meat, poultry, fish, wheat, green coffee and eggs led the food decline, while fruits and vegetables rose, and industrial commodities jumped 0.7 percent, the largest since last November, signaling mixed inflation signals.
Rend Lake College announces yearbooks for full time students can be picked up at the RLC Student Center today 6 to 7 39 PM and Friday 10 AM to 3 PM and 6 to 7 30 PM. Students unable to attend may authorize a proxy to collect or pick up during school hours after classes begin August 23.

A severe western Illinois storm lashed Fulton McDonough and Hancock counties late Wednesday. A tornado touched down near Buca Fulton County and another sighting was reported near Macomb McDonough County. Rodney C. The Old Union Board of Education schedules its regular monthly meeting for 8 p.m. Monday August 16 at First Community Church. Superintendent Ira Large confirms the venue and time.
The College Board rescinds the F and W contract and awards the electrical work to Hammers at 49,600. Hammers, a former board member, then declines the contract, prompting Marie Simmons to move restoring the contract to F and W and the board approves a 500 payment for legal fees. F and W will proceed with the electrical contract at 49,900.

Hillsboro Illinois AP Judge Omer Poos long serving on the U S District Court dies at 73 after a lung ailment hospitalization. Appointed in 1958 he retired recently to a nursing home. His last major case involved narcotics agents charged in a civil rights probe in Collinsville. Born Aug 22 1902 in Mount Olive he studied at St Louis University Law and served as Republican delegate. He is survived by his widow Virginia Van Liew and son Robert of Alexandria Virginia. Funeral services set for Friday.
Dr Philip Ward active in Kiwanis, festival events, United Fund, Mt Vernion Arts Council, King City Dinner Club, and YMCA. Served on desegregation advisory for Mt Vernon District 80 Schools. Participated in Southern Holinois Collegiate Common Market with Bend Lake College. Native of Michigan, returning with wife Isabel and three children Heather Laurel and Philip Mac.
Garold Shields announces William Ballard of Anna named special prosecutor following Donald Irvin's removal from the case over a potential conflict of interest in his county board roles. Ballard to handle the case as Shields chairs the board.
The Hilliard Board approved a new 8:15 am to 3:45 pm teacher day and kept seven and eight grade start times. Ferrell Puckett voted against, citing traffic, elder-younger issues, and less time for older students. Other actions included ADT fire alarm link, furniture bids, Rend Lake College night classes at Casey Junior High, lunch contracts, air conditioners, resignations, and staff changes.
Roberts cites a $13 million program budget with an average homeowner tax of about 25 cents weekly for enhanced mental health services. Current programs include outpatient counseling, home-visit sustaining care, an alcohol and drug program, and a youth service bureau, funded by user income.
