Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 00 p.m. at Dixon Johnson Funeral Home Fairfield officiated by Dr Bradford Curry. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery Fairfield veteran section. Henry Weir 74 of Boyleston died Monday in Wabash Hospital Mt Carmel. Survived by son Bob Weir and sister Mrs Maggie Joslin of Oklahoma City. WWI veteran.

Willie Green Dies at 81 in Mt Vernon

Willie Green 81 of 1015 Bell Street died 6 32 p m yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Services at 2 p m Sunday Mt Olive General Baptist Church with Rev Maurice Paxton and Earl York officiating. Friends may call Pulley Funeral Home after 4 p m today. Body to church noon Sunday for viewing until services. Born Aug 9 1886 in Jefferson County to Thomas and Mahalia Bundy Green. Married Alma Sursa Dec 22 1905 in Mt Vernon. Survived by two sons Ralph of St Charles Ill and Bryan of Mt Vernon, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceded in death by an infant son and three brothers.

Gray Hails Development in Southern Illinois

Rep Gray outlined progress on interstate traffic lanes and Rend Lake projects in Jefferson and Franklin counties. He cited unemployment drop from 20 to six percent and urged continued development. Open Heart Surgery For City Manager's Granddaughter

Little Linda Pell five year old granddaughter of City Manager and Mrs. Chester Lewis is recovering well after open heart surgery at Billings Hospital in Chicago Wednesday. Surgeons repaired a hole in her heart about half a dollar in size. Linda's parents are Robert and Jane Pell of Chicago Heights. Mrs. Lewis is visiting Chicago with Linda and will stay during recuperation.

A California family of five was rescued after a rock slide at about 8,500 feet on the Three Sisters in Central Oregon. J George Schultz of Sacramento suffered serious head injuries. son Robert G., 11, was also hurt. The other children Marie 10 Paul 8 and Tommy 7 were not believed injured.

Governor Signs Bills Prohibit Concealed Identity in Firearm Rules

Governor signs a batch of bills including prohibition on possession of firearms by those hooded or masked, rules denying bet money, making Columbus Day a school holiday, requiring consumer education courses in high schools, and integrating the Fair Employment Practices Act with federal standards. Denver Stores Fire Bombed

Fire bombs exploded in a Denver shopping center in a predominantly Negro neighborhood late Friday night. Police moved in quickly, sealing off the area and preventing crowds. Driverless Cars In Accident Here

Two accidents near Mt. Vernon on Friday involved driverless cars. Georgia L. Smith’s car rolled from a Tri City Grocery lot striking Noble Crider’s parked vehicle, with Crider’s damaged over 100 dollars and Smith’s about 10. A second collision at 13th and Broadway damaged Ronald Rubin’s car about 400 dollars and Edna Cross’s about 100.

Old Folks Get Seized Liquor

Police raids on unlicensed taverns seized contraband liquor for four old folks homes. Last month 18 cases of liquor 36 of wine and 109 of beer were delivered. The Masonic Home of Missouri said the liquor is issued twice yearly by the medical director to residents averaging age 82, with others at the Jewish Center for the Aged and two Little Sisters of the Poor homes receiving it.

Police in Hull Massachusetts found a Rhode Island Red hen roaming Nantasket Avenue and kept it overnight for safety. The following morning officers discovered an egg in the hen’s cell, confirming the bird’s surprising stay.

Man in $781,800 Gem Robbery Questioned

Frank Barnes, 43, of Amityville, was seized near Kennedy Airport and taken to Saratoga Springs for questioning in an extortion attempt over the return of $781,800 in jewelry stolen from the Vanderbilt Whitney Cady Hill estate. Barnes faced Saratoga grand jury on extortion charges as FBI, New York State Police and Saratoga authorities investigated. Whitney had received calls demanding $35,000 for information on the jewels’ return. The theft occurred Aug. 2 and was reported three days later.
