Chicago stock yards today showed bids steady to dull with top prices around 14.0 for hogs and 10.5 for cattle. Sheep and other livestock traded up slightly, with top quotes near 10.65 for sheep. Trade volume around 30,000 head across categories.
At East St. Louis Aug 11 hogs 9000 mostly slow with top 11 dollars. cattle 8000 slow to steady with top 10.25. a1-2,000 fairly active top 9.25. New York market Aug 11 Bearish tone as bears count on weak buying power. U S Steel heavy at open down 0.54 to 73. Equipment and industrials weak. HOGS receipts about 30,000 with top $11 and bulk sales from 8.00 to 10.56 for various weights. HEAVY, medium, and light hog classes show mixed declines and gains. CATTLE receipts 11,000. market dull with range typically 4.00 to 10.50 for butcher through prime grades. veal calves and feeder stock listed. SHEEP receipts 8,000 with market strong for lambs and yearlings. ewes and rams show broader ranges.
Quotation shows 25¢ per dozen for loose eggs and hens at 22¢, broilers 144 Ws up 25¢ per lb, old cocks 9¢ per lb, ducks 13¢ per lb, young ducks 16¢ per lb, turkeys 20¢ per lb with old toms 20¢, old geese 7¢ per lb, young geese 14¢ per lb, butter country 10¢ per lb, butter fat 37¢ per lb.
