Motor Bike Struck By Car Injures Boy Near Mt Vernon
Roy Gene Mays, 14, of Route 7 Mt Vernon, was hurt at 3:25 p m yesterday when his motor bike collided with an automobile on State Route 15 about a mile east of Mt Vernon. He received head and foot injuries from a local physician and were not serious. Darlene Laws, 17, of Fairfield, was the car’s driver. State Patrolman Buck Lyons investigated the crash.

Doctor Rutledge Begins 70 Year Murder Sentence at Fort Madison
Dr Robert C Rutledge Jr 28 was sent to State Penitentiary Fort Madison as Inmate 21770 after Cedar Rapids jury convicted him of second degree murder in the stabbing death of Byron C Hattman 29. Judge J FE Helserman sentenced him to 10 years to life with possible release in 1976 time off for good behavior. Warden Percy Lainson said Rutledge could be out in 1976 and noted he was placed in isolation for tests. Sydney Rutledge left Cedar Rapids with her stepmother after sentencing.
