John Paul Joy of Belle Rive died at Jefferson Memorial Hospital at 7:20 p m. He was 70 years old. Funeral services will be at Myers Chapel 2:00 p m. tomorrow with burial in Laird cemetery. The body lies in state at Myers Chapel after 4:00 p m today. He was born March 18 1890 in Dahlgren to Charles and Fra Joy. Survivors include several nieces and nephews Viola Smith of RFD 1 Vernon living with him. He was a World War I veteran.

Minister's Wife Attacked in Subway Station Rape Conviction
A 21 year old Black man, Anthony Durant, pleaded guilty to raping Doris Hostetter the clergyman's wife, and to robbery on a deserted midtown Manhattan subway platform. He was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison, the maximum under law. The incident occurred February 24.

A predawn blaze in Shirley Tyler County West Virginia killed five people including a 9 year old boy and an 8 year old girl among four children and a 19 year old woman. Gun Shots From Mt. V Car Shops Hit Moving Auto
A moving car was hit by shotgun fire from the abandoned Mt. Vernon car shops on South Tenth Street late last night. Driver Bill Shurtz of 415 South 15th Street reported the shooting, saying a shotgun pellet struck his arm and another hit the vehicle. Police believe pigeon shooters on the vacant property fired the shots.

Paralytic Polio Cases Rise Prompt Urgent Vaccination Appeal
Washington AP The Public Health Service reports rising paralytic polio cases with 78 last week versus 69 the week before. Of 310 cases with vaccination data this year, 166 had no vaccine.
