Size of School Boards to Change In South Illinois
A new state law approved by the 1951 legislature and signed by Governor Stevenson will reform the size of downstate Illinois school boards to a uniform seven member model in districts without special charters. Presidents will be chosen from among elected members. Boards with more than seven members will shrink by one annually, with a two-seat reduction in 1952 if the incumbent president’s term ends that year. The Illinois Commerce Commission granted permission to drop three trains between Peoria and Granite City and another train between Granite City and Springfield while authorizing rescheduling. Navy pilot lands Bearcat in Lake Michigan
