Admits Crime of Love and Passion in Murder Trial
Rolando Scioli, 43, an opera fan, told the jury he killed his former friend Virginia Wilson in a crime of love and passion. A Brooklyn jury found him guilty of first degree manslaughter after a Monay trial that began last Monday, flagging the case as one of the shortest murder trials in the borough. The defense sought a death penalty, but the verdict carried a potential 10 to 20 year sentence. sentencing was not set by Judge Nathan R. Sobel. Lightning Kills Five Camp Hikers in Idaho Peaks
In Driggs Idaho a bolt of lightning struck a canyon in the Teton Peaks killing five hikers and injuring eight others who sheltered beneath trees during a sudden thunderstorm. The victims all from Idaho Falls include four teenage girls and a woman camp counselor. Fred Miller aided unconscious girls after warning the group to move away from the trees.
